Tamil Nadu CM Stalin presents best literary work awards to 21
adi dravidar writers

SYNOPSIS
❖ CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K
Stalin on Friday presented cash awards and
certificates to 21 writers identified by the Tamil
Nadu Adi Dravidar Art and Literature Society
for their best literary works in the fields of art,
culture, literature and research activities.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS:
❖ The awards for the years 2018-19 and 2019-20 were presented at the
secretariat.
❖ The state government extends financial support to adi dravidar writers for
which a corpus fund of Rs 50 lakh has been created. Interest accrued is
availed for the cash awards to 10 adi dravidar writers and one non-adi
dravidar writer every year.
“The chief minister gave away Rs 20,000 each to the awardees towards the
first instalment and the certificates,” said an official release.

❖ Bartholomew Siegenbalk, a German clergyman,
arrived by ship on July 9, 1706, at Tharangambadi
Beach.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS:
❖ Although his aim was to spread Christianity, he soon became accustomed to
talking to the people here and gaining their love. Seekenbalk learned Tamil
properly within 5 years and taught Tamil to both his disciples. He sent them
to Germany and in 1711 established the Department of Tamil at King Martin
Luther University in Halle.

problem may be nipped in the budding stage.

Tamil Nadu athletes participating in the Olympics

SYNOPSIS
❖ The 32nd Olympic Games were scheduled to take place in the Japanese
capital, Tokyo, last year, but have been postponed for an unprecedented one
year due to the Corona threat and will run from July 23 to August 8.
❖ 120 people are expected to represent India in the Olympics. 11 of them are
from Tamil Nadu.
❖ In particular, the Indian team of 26 people is to participate in the athletics
competition. 5 of them are from Tamil Nadu. (Arokkiyaraj, Thanalakshmi,
Suba Venkatesh, Revathi Veeramani, Naganathan Pandi)
❖ Bhavani Devi from Tamil Nadu is the first Indian to compete in fencing at
the Olympics
❖ 6 So far only 6 people from Tamil Nadu have played in the hockey team and
won a medal in the Olympics. It is noteworthy that Baskaran from Tamil
Nadu was the captain of the team at that time

❖ The Central Freshwater Aquaculture
Research Institute (ICAR-CIFA) in Bhubaneswar, Orissa is a pioneer in fish
resource research in India. The company has developed a cell phone
processor called & Matsya Sethu" for everyone to learn aquaculture
techniques online.
❖ This processor was developed by a scientist from Tamil Nadu working at the
Central Freshwater Biodiversity Research Station. Sivaraman is the creator.
