Introduction

In our daily dealings with people around us, there are varied ways and
situations where we communicate our thoughts, ideas and feelings. Our

A. Biňan City will celebrate its Liberation Day. An anchor from a renowned TV
station, ABS-CBN, interviewed Director Bryan Jayson Borja of Biňan
Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office (BCHATO) about the highlights of
the upcoming event.
Anchor: Director Borja, what should the Biňanenses and tourists expect to
happen on Biňan’s Liberation Day?

Director Borja: There are a lot to expect. The City administration headed
by Mayor Walfredo Dimaguila has prepared a fully planned line up
of activities to enjoy such as symbolical grand opening at the town
plaza, massive parade around the town, inter-school competitions
in different fields showcasing Biňanenses’ wit, valor, artistry and
creativity and launching of Gawang Biňan Trade Fair, to name a
few.

Anchor: Director, would you like to invite our “kababayans” who are now
watching us on national television?

Director Borja: Oh yes! we are inviting everyone to join us in celebrating

another historical Biňan Day for you to see the beauty of our city.
Come, experience and explore the City of Life.

B. A man blaming himself for the crisis that he is going through.

Man to himself: Why? What happened to you? Why did you do that? You
could have not done that. You could have chosen to keep yourself
away from that bad company. Look at you now! Instead of happily
joining your family and friends; for that small amount of money,
you are behind these cold bars…

C. Three students are talking about their project in school.

Anna: Can you come for a meeting tomorrow? We should divide the tasks
and help one another finish and submit our project on time.

Leah: Let me go back to you later. I must check my schedule, yet. What
time are you having it?
Anna: We plan on having it after lunch. If I’ll not be around when you come
back, feel free to leave a message on my desk.
Leah: Sure thing!
April: I’m available at that time tomorrow. I’m sure to come to the meeting
with Charity.
Anna: That’s great April, we only have very limited time to work on our
project.

D. Ms. Julie Ann Natividad spoke among a thousand SHS students of BINHS
to enjoin them in the 5S implementation in their classrooms.
Ms. Julie Ann Natividad: My dear SHS students, proper housekeeping is
next to a healthy mind and body and promotes positivity. I encourage all
of you to strictly implement 5S in the four walls of your classrooms and
maintain a conducive place for learning. The school is concerned, not
only about your academic gains but also about nurturing your love and
passion for a clutter-free environment or surrounding which is the root of
all academic successes.

Does it help in achieving effective communication? Explain.
LET’S LEARN

Types of Speech Context

1. Intrapersonal – The speaker acts both as the sender and the receiver of the
message. It is basically, you, talking to yourself and reflecting on things that
had happened or may still happen.

2. Interpersonal –This type of communication occurs between and among

people and establishes personal relationship between and among them.

3. Public – It is the communication that engages you to a large audience. The

speaker is knowledgeable about specific topic and must use loud volume of
voice and visuals because he/she is talking to a large crowd.

4. Mass Communication – This refers to communication that takes place

through television, radio, newspapers, magazines, books, billboards, internet,
and other types of media.

ABSTRACTION: DEEPEN AND CAST

As a Senior High School student, what do you think is the advantage of
