Discuss the definition of “Communication”

•define communication
and its origins.

Communication - transmission of ideas and

emotions with the use of verbal and non-
verbal cues between or among persons such as
a sibling, a parent, a teacher, or a friend face-
to-face in real life or even via the internet.
Communication comes when the message is
imparted as information.

Laptop speaker or source. The sender is the one who has

someone. He must first encode the message in a

form that can be understood, such as by the use
of a common language, and then transmit it. Total 25
Message or content is the information that the
sender wants to relay to the receiver.
Again, since I am the sender of this
communication cycle and I have now given the
information in this lecture, the information now
turns to be my message to you .

Medium or Channel - means by which a

message is transmitted. The medium is the
channel through which the message is delivered.
The medium may be oral , written or even non
verbal.

In choosing your medium you have to make sure

that your medium is suitable for your message,
you also have to consider the place you are in.
Environment affects communication; it may help
you and your receiver to transmit and understand
the message or it may break the communication.

One of the most forgotten types of

communication medium is the Billboard,
especially today, when everything is all about
social media. But the good thing with the
billboard is, you can use this to inform people
who do not have access to computers and
internet.

Channel - also known as the instrument or

method used in delivering the message. The
basic channels are written (hard copy print or
digital formats), oral or spoken and electronic
multimedia.
• watch and listen to
sample oral
communication activities

As you perceive the message, it requires a response or

feedback. Feedback enables the sender to evaluate
the effectiveness of his message. If the receiver does
not understand

what the sender wants to convey, then the sender

refines or repeats the message.

Transmitting or sending message is half of the

communication process. When messages reach
to the receiver, he decodes the message and
sends his response to the sender to complete the
communication process.

The communication process is not always so simple

or smooth, of course. These elements can affect how
information is transmitted, received, and interpreted

Kinds of Noise

Physical Noise refers to the actual noise such

as loud music or the irritating engine of a
motorcycle. The physical noise can also be
created by your seatmate who talks to you
while the teacher is explaining the lesson, since
it prevents you from listening to the teacher.

Physiological Noise refers to the noise that is

being felt by the body and mind. It is the kind of
noise wherein the body becomes a hindrance to
good communication.
Example of which are headache and toothache,
one may not be able to listen to a friend, listen
to music or do anything because of the pain one
feels in his/her body.

Psychological Noise
Another type of psychological noise is the thing
that occurs when one is thinking deeply about
something or is suffering from an emotional
condition ( sadness, depression, confusion),
which discourages participation in
communicating situation.
Context - environment that surrounds the
communication, this includes the venue and
occasions, as well as the attitudes of the speaker and
the listener
