1. Know how conflicts escalate and how to prevent it

2. Learn that their attitudes and behaviors can worsen the problem

3. Learn that conflicts are part of life and we must learn how to manage conflict

II. Procedure (Pamaraan)

1. Opening Prayer

2. Story of Johnny and Raymond

They were classmates in Grade 8. At a friendly basketball game, Johnny got hurt and hit
Raymond on his side which led to a fist fight.

If you were Johnny what would you have done?

If you were Raymond how would you react?

III. Group Dynamics Activity

Group 1: Discuss when and how does conflict arise?

 Name calling
 Innocent remarks
 When they are accused of something
 When they are not being listened to
 Minor disagreements and antagonism

Group 2: A kid is walking to school and two or three other kids follow behind calling him
names. You actually saw this happening, how will you resolve this?

Group 3: A basketball player was hit by his opponent. What is a better way to fix this?

Group 4: A group of Grade 9 students are noisy and are shoving somebody out of their
way in the hallway?

Here are some peaceful/positive way to resolve conflicts:

 Listen to the other person

 Let him/her know how you feel about the situation in a civil manner
 Understand the other person’s point of view
 Use words not fists
 Respect each other
 Walk away from the fight

Remember the following truths:

 Conflicts are part of our life

 Make the right choice when confronted with conflict in your life.
 Violent reaction to conflict is a choice!

III. Evaluation

Benefits of conflict management:

 We build stronger relationships

 We develop our skill in problem solving
 There is less tension among your friends
 It gives a deeper understanding of the people around you

IV. Closing prayer – that the students will be mild mannered, guarding their tongue with
what they say. That at the slightest hint of conflict they will be able to settle it among
themselves. That in their own classrooms, homes and communities cool headedness will
always prevail.

Conflict is a normal part of life. We all have occasional conflicts, even with people we love.
