TASK 1

2. BROADENING OF CONCEPT
a. Considering genetics, why do we say each individual is unique? Is heredity the only factor in
the uniqueness of each organism? Why or why not?
Many of your variations combine to make up the 0.1 percent disparity in your DNA—the
portion of your DNA that distinguishes you from anyone else—and help you have a special
sequence. When chromosomes recombine, they are basically exchanging DNA variants within
themselves. Genetic diversity is what distinguishes us all, whether in terms of hair color, skin
tone, or even facial form. Individuals in a genus share certain traits, but they are not identical;
this distinction is known as variety.

b. Is it correct to say one has inherited bad or good genes? Give concrete examples.
The same gene that makes people more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease can also help
them avoid kidney injury. However, it highlights a recurring trend arising as researchers
investigate the biology of disease: Only a few genes are likely to be one-dimensionally positive
or evil.

c. Which inherited trait are you most proud of? Why?

The inherited traits from my Parents, I grew into a responsible and respectful person. I'm
proud of myself for inheriting this and I can picture other people's struggles even though I'm not
a part of it.

d. Why is genetic diversity important?

Inside a population, genetic variation is critical because it determines the rate at which
adaptation happens. Genetic variability and variation can be thought of as the "door to
evolution on Earth" and the "raw material" that allows organisms to adapt to a changing
environment (Elliott 2002).

3. INTEGRATION
On your personal traits and characteristics, is there any trait that you are not happy about?
Why? How do you show appreciation of yourself and others considering the concept of
heredity?
Shyness. Sure, your shyness can prevent you from approaching your crush, but shyness
isn't all bad. I appreciate myself for loving myself unconditionally, giving myself the amazing gift
of self-approval, not taking self-criticism too seriously and choosing to go easy on myself, and
becoming insanely grateful for myself.
EVALUATION/ ASSESSMENT
Multiple Choice. Directions: Read carefully and answer the given questions.

1. Which of the following genotypes is incorrectly paired?

A. ss-recessive genotype
B. Cc- heterozygous dominant genotype
C. GG- homozygous dominant genotype
D. yY- heterozygous dominant genotype

2. When the genotype consists of the dominant and recessive allele, which trait will be
expressed by the offspring?
A. Dominant
B. Recessive
C. Neither
D. Both

3. The idea that different pairs of alleles are passed from the parents to offspring independently
is stated in which Mendelian law?
A. Law of segregation
B. Law of dominance
C. Law of independent assortment
D. Codominance

4. The idea that for any particular trait, the pair of alleles of each parent separate and only one
allele from each parent are randomly passed to an offspring is stated in which Mendelian law?
A. Law of segregation
B. Law of dominance
C. Law of independent assortment
D. incomplete dominance
5. In watermelons, solid green rind color (G) is dominant to stripes (g). A farmer crosses two
watermelon plants that are heterozygous for rind color. What is the probability that the
offspring will have solid green rinds? 75 %

6. – 10. In rabbits, white fur (W) is dominant to black (w), and long ears (E) are dominant to
short ears (e). A breeder mates two rabbits that are heterozygous (WwEe) for both traits. What
is the chance that the offspring will be black with long ears? (5 points)
There are four different kinds of gamete formations. 1.WE 2. WE 3. WE 4. WE after the cross we
get in the case of a round and wrinkled seed, make a Plunket rectangle. You'll find that three of
the 16 offspring are black and have long noses.
