Opening Sx3D and Defining Workspace


Start Sx3D using shortcut placed on desktop. Choose “EnglishUnits” template as shown below and click
OK button.

Once Sx3D is open, carry out following steps

1) Go to File menu and click on Define Workspace menu.

2) Select “SP3DTrain” plant in Plant drop down list box and “Plant Filters->Training Filters-
>CableTray Barrier” filter as shown in below picture. Click OK and Sx3D will bring all objects from
“U03” into workspace.

3) Click “Fit” button on top toolbar and switch to “Electrical” task. Also make sure that active
permission group is “Electrical” as shown below.

Routing Electrical Cableway with Barrier


We will learn to create network of Cableway with Barrier in this section. Make sure that active task is
“Electrical” and active Permission Group is also “Electrical”. You should see view like below,

1) Go to “Tools” menu and click on “PinPoint”. Make sure active Coordinate System in Pinpoint
ribbobbar is “Global”.

2) Click on “Route Cableway” button in vertical toolbar on left side. Ribbonbar for creating new
cableway will appear. Select “New Cableway” option in “Run” drop down box. See picture below,

3) The New Cableway dialog appears. Select the More option in the System drop-down list to
specify the system where you want to place the cableway.

4) In the Select System dialog box, select A2 > U03 > Electrical > Low Voltage > BarrierCT and
click OK.

5) In the New Cableway dialog box, verify the following cableway specifications:

System: BarrierCT

Name Rule: DefaultNameRule

Specification: SAMPLE-S1-L6-12C

Number of Barriers: 1 (Select Tab or Enter after entering # of Barriers)

6) Select the Barriers Tab in the New Cableway dialog box and key in the following specifications:

Cable Tray Width: 6in

Cable Tray Depth: 4in

Default Cable Way Spec: Cws-0

Default Min Cableway Barrier Width: 1in

7) Select Cable way1 from the Select Item for Modification drop down menu. Then key in the
following values.

Cable Way Spec: Cws-0

Fill Efficiency: 60%

Signal Type: Control

Voltage Grade: Low Voltage (300V cables for signal and relay circuits <50V and
>15V)

8) Continue to key in following information for Cableway2 and click OK.

Cable Way Spec: Cws-0

Offset Along Width Direction: 3in

Fill Efficiency: 60%

Signal Type: Power

Voltage Grade: Low Voltage (600V cables for 208/120V ac Power)

9) Key in following coordinates on the PinPoint ribbon and Click in the graphic view:

E: + 4ft 6in

N: 0 ft

EL: +1 ft

10) Notice that Plane on ribbon is changed to Horizontal. Also notice rubberband graphic for new
cableway appearing in graphic view.

11) Key in/verify following coordinates on the PinPoint ribbon and Click in the graphic view:

E: +4 ft 6 in

N: +8 ft

EL: +1 ft

13) Key in/verify following coordinates on the PinPoint ribbon and Click in the graphic view:

E: -4 ft

N: +8 ft

14) Change Plane on Cableway ribbon to East-West plane using drop down menu.

15) Key in/verify following coordinates on the PinPoint ribbon and Click in the graphic view:

16) Key in/verify following coordinates on the PinPoint ribbon and Click in the graphic view:

E: -37 ft

17) Change Plane on Cableway ribbon to North-South plane using drop down menu.

18) Key in/verify following coordinates on the PinPoint ribbon and Click in the graphic view:

E: -37 ft

N: +52 ft

EL: +14 ft

19) Change Plane on Cableway ribbon to East-West plane using drop down menu.

20) Key in/verify following coordinates on the PinPoint ribbon and Click in the graphic view:

E: -26 ft

21) Key in/verify following coordinates on the PinPoint ribbon and Click in the graphic view:

22) Key in/verify following coordinates on the PinPoint ribbon and Click in the graphic view:

23) Change Plane on Cableway ribbon to Horizontal using drop down menu.

24) Key in/verify following coordinates on the PinPoint ribbon and Click in the graphic view:

E: -20 ft

25) Right Click in graphic view to end Route Cableway command. Change view direction to
Isometric and your view should look like below.

26) Change view direction to Top using Common Views button in top toolbar. Use Zoom Area button
on top toolbar to zoom into south side of cableway we just modeled. You view should look like
below.

27) Click on “Route Cableway” button in vertical toolbar on left side. Ribbon bar for creating new
cableway will appear. Select “New Cableway” option in “Run” drop down box. See picture below,

28) The New Cableway dialog appears. Select the More option in the System drop-down list to

29) In the Select System dialog box, select A2 > U03 > Electrical > Low Voltage > BarrierCT and
click OK.

30) In the New Cableway dialog box, verify the following cableway specifications:

35) Notice that Plane on ribbon is changed to Horizontal. Also notice rubber band graphic for new
cableway appearing in graphic view.

36) Move mouse towards south and wait for N glyph to appear.

37) Press and hold CTRL key and press L key on keyboard to lock routing direction to North-South.

38) Hover over the Cableway (running East-West) we modeled earlier till keypoint glyph appears on
centerline of first cableway. See picture below.

39) Keep mouse in same position and click in graphic view. This will create Tee (branch) component
on first cableway. Your view should look like below.

Routing Cable though Cableways with Barrier


In this section you will learn to route cables though Cableways with Barrier in Sx3D. Cables in
Sx3D are imported from SmartPlant Electrical through SmartPlant Foundation. There are four
power cables and four control cables in A2 > U03 > Low Voltage > Cables hierarchy as shown
below.

In order to route cables though Cableways with Barriers, Cableways representing must be
connected to that autoroute functionality in Sx3D can find proper route for cable.

1) Make sure your view is Top view. Use Zoom Area button on top toolbar to zoom into Tee which
connects two Cableways we modeled in previous section. After zooming, your view should look
like below.

2) Go to vertical toolbar on left side and start Auto Connect command using button shown below.

3) You will see ribbon for Auto Connecting cableways. Status bar at bottom of Sx3D window will
prompt for selecting first cableway.

4) Select top barrier cableway with signal type as Power from first cableway running East-West.
Use quick pick if necessary.

5) Click on Accept button on ribbon as shown below.

6) Notice status bar message asking for selection of second cableway. Select left barrier cableway
with signal type as power from cableway connected to Tee.Use quick pick if required. See
picture below.

7) Notice that Finish button on ribbon is enabled. Click on Finish button to create cableways
connecting barrier cableways for power cables.

8) Repeat steps 2-7 to connect Cableways for Control cables as shown below.

9) This will create connecting cableways for Control Cablways.

10) Adjust your view as shown below using Zoom commands.

11) Change your selection filter to Cables as shown below and select all cables in hierarchy A2 >
U03 > Low Voltage > Cables folder.

12) After selecting cables, you will see all cables highlighted in graphic view.

13) Notice ribbon for auto routing cables above graphic window. This ribbon contains settings for
auto route functionality and command for auto routing cables.

14) Click on AutoRoute Options button in ribbon as shown below.

15) A dialog box for AutoRouting options will appear on screen. Select options and enter values for
tail range as shown below and click OK.

16) Click on AutoRoute button on ribbon as shown below.

17) Smart 3D software will try to determine best possible route for cables and will highlight best route
it determines in graphic window as shown below.

18) Click Finish button on ribbon at save route determined by Smart 3D.

19) Select CableRun-1-0002 in hierarchy A2 > U03 > Low Voltage > Cables and click on Property
Page button available on ribbon as shown below.

20) Dialog box for Cable Properties will appear on screen. Go to Occurrence tab in this dialog box as
shown below.

21) Notice cable length calculated by Smart 3D. Go to Route tab and select Cableways option in drop
down list as shown below.

22) Select CableRun-1-0006 in hierarchy A2 > U03 > Low Voltage > Cables and review route for this
cable. Note that this control cable has been routed using different cable way path as shown
below.
