SACRED OBJECTS

One of the most enjoyable aspects of the shamanic path is finding


and working with the sacred objects in Nature. Everything has a
vibration and an energy that is unique in Nature. As you learn to find
and work with objects, you will develop a deeper sensitivity to their
vibrations. Even objects that seem very similar, such as two stones of
the same kind, will have a slightly different vibration from each other.
When you begin to sense this, you have already opened yourself to
deep levels of shamanic consciousness.
Truly all objects are sacred objects since they are gifts from
Nature. We have many names for these objects:

medicine objects power objects


sacred helpers power animals
spirit animals allies
spirit helpers totem helpers
talismans Craft objects
magical tools ritual items

The list could go on and on. Technically, only those objects with
which you have developed a deep, shamanic connection are con­
sidered to be your totem objects. These totem objects reflect your
own shamanic abilities, or your medicine. Since this book is about
learning to walk on the shamanic path, and to develop a shamanic
connection to Self, Nature, and Spirit, we can simplify the matter and
use the term totem to include all sacred objects from the four worlds
of Nature, and from Spirit. This will be a good reminder of the kind of
