Now breathe four breaths on the totem and place it against the base
of your spine.

Breathing slowly, create an image in your mind's eye of the Ray


colors of the chakra or energy points: Red-Orange-Yellow­
Green-Blue-Indigo-Violet.

When you have done that, breathe deeply and switch hands while
continuing to hold the totem at the base of your spine.

Now, image the colors in reverse: Violet-Indigo-Blue-Green­


Yellow-Orange-Red.

Last, take the totem from behind your back, place in both hands, and
hold it at arm's length, heart level.

Breathe four breaths on the totem and slowly bring it up to touch


your third-eye area.

Hold it for a moment; then gently place the totem a few feet away.

Breathe deeply and express your gratitude.

Honor the directions: South-West-North-East.

Rest and meditate.

This is an exercise. It may be as ceremonial or as informal as you


choose. You may add to it or take away. I do advise that you go
through it once just as it is to open all the sensory channels. You may
also extend the distance between yourself and the totem until you are
able to do this without touching at all.
It's also advisable to make notes of your experience. Afterwards,
be aware of your environment and your dream states for a few
days.

Notes on the Journey

I had spotted a palm-sized piece of dark untumbled amethyst


on a stack of papers at a rock shop. It was just the deep violet I
vibrate to, and was calling me clearly. The salesperson was
unsure of the price and felt she should wait for the owner in case
the stone had gem-quality amethyst inside.
