Phandalin is a human village located northeast of Leilon, where the road that

ran from the High Road to Triboar faded into a trail. It was raided by orcs in 951
DR and subsequently abandoned. It was eventually resettled, and Phandalin
became a frontier settlement of farmers and prospectors looking for wealth in
the Sword Mountains.

History

Phandalin was originally a farming community. The orcs of the realm of Uruth
Ukrypt ("Home of Uruth") had destroyed all game in their realm, and, in search
of food, they turned on the human settlements in the area, raiding them.
Phandalin was one of these settlements, and in 951 DR, it was overrun and then
abandoned.

Sometime in the 1400s DR, settlers from Neverwinter and Waterdeep had
resettled the ruins of Phandalin.

After Volothamp Geddarm passed through the town and wrote about it, the area
experienced an influx of tourists and adventurers.

Government

Phandalin has no functioning government, however, the townsfolk annually

elect a townsmaster. The townsmaster serves as a judge and mediator, and also
kept the records that need to be kept, along with one or more Beadles serving
under them.

Places of Interest

Stonehill Inn

A modest inn run by a tall, friendly human male named Toblen Stonehill. Toblen
came from Triboar in the east, seeking the opportunity in prospecting like many
others. He soon found that he knew more about running an inn than mining,
and so he established the inn.

Barthen's Provisions

The biggest trading post in Phandalin, staying open from sunup to sundown. It
iss run by a lean and balding human male of fifty years with a kindly manner
named Elmar Barthen.
Edermath Orchard

An orchard field with a simple cottage of a silver-haired half-elf named Daran

Edermath. Daran is a retired marshal in the lands of the Dragon Coast. When he
retired, he returned to the Neverwinter region which was his original home.

Lionshield Coster

A weapons and armor supplier owned by the Lionshield Coster. The master of
this post was a sharp-tongued human woman of thirty-five named Linene
Graywind. Her younger brother, Gavin, helps keep her weapons and armor in
good repair.

Phandalin Miner's Exchange

A trading post where miners have their finds weighed and paid out. The
exchange is run by an ambitious and calculating human woman named Halia
Thornton.

Alderleaf Farm

A simple farm run by a wise female Halfling named Qelline Alderleaf. She was
long-time friends with the druid, Reidoth, and lives with her young son, Carp.

Shrine of Luck

A small shrine made of stone from the ruins and is Phandalin's only temple,
dedicated to Tymora, Goddess of Luck. It is in the care of a zealous young elf,
Sister Garaele.

The Sleeping Giant

A rundown, dirty, and dangerous watering hole. It is operated by a surly female

dwarf named Grista and is the favored bar of less savory visitors and townsfolk.

Townmaster's Hall

A small building that functions as the town's council building. It also housed a
small, but serviceable jail in the cellar. It is run by the townsmaster, Harbin
Wester.
Tresendar Manor

More of a castle than a manor, it is an ancient building that was abandoned after
the orc raids in 951 DR. The cellars once served as a safe haven when the estate
was attacked. It also served as a resting place for the deceased members of the
Tresendar Family.

He is gruff and often short with people if they disobey his orders, but he is

parents. After the death of their youngest child, Kim's parents left Phandalin,
determined to escape the violence of the wilds of the Sword Coast. Kim and her
twin brother, Wendel remained, serving as hunters for the village.

Kim particularly hates bandits and when she is not on a hunt, she is always
willing to kill any lurking too close to her home. She always travels with her pet
panther, Persephone, who she raised since she was just a kitten. Persephone is
very well trained and poses no danger to residents of the town, but is a source of
fear to anyone who tries to attack the town.

Kim Wayfield's twin brother and resident hunter. He's often ridiculed for being
a bit dim-witted, and is often referred to as the village idiot. Most of these
comments are made behind his back, however, as Wendel is a formidable
fighter, and as much as he is to be feared due to his fighting ability, even more
fear the wrath of his sister, who is one of the most talented archers in the region.

Wendel is fiercely protective of his sister, much less so of the village. He serves
them well, but has very little loyalty to Phandalin or its people. He would gladly
leave if it weren't for his sister.

the art of the hunt. She set off to Phandalin when she was 60, leaving her tribe
to find herself and experience something different. Her plan was to explore the
Sword Coast before moving east across the continent to see as much of Faerun
as possible.

Her plans changed though when she grew accustomed to a quiet life in a small
town. She never felt the same wanderlust her parents felt and wanted something
more: a real home. She has lived in Phandalin ever since. She employs her skill
as a hunter to aid the people there, and is quick to fight anyone or anything she
sees as a threat to her new home.

stealthy and quiet nature, but they quickly realized her skill with a crossbow
made her more suited for the Town Watch.

Jelena is a great shot, rivaling that of most of the Hunters, but has always been
overshadowed by Jennifer. They have a friendly rivalry and are close friends,
often confiding in one another. No one in town is sure if Jennifer knows about
Jelena's past, as Jennifer does not like to gossip, but it is well known that there

Description
Crispus Drevar was born in Phandalin but his family moved to Neverwinter
when he was just a young boy. His parents opened up a small inn and were
doing quite well for themselves. It wasn't long before local thugs started trying
to strongarm his family into paying them protection money. Crispus wouldn't
stand for this extortion and stood up to them. Despite being outnumbered, he
fought valiantly, but still lost, being badly beaten and left in an alley.

He soon joined up with the Neverwinter Militia, not only to better learn to
defend himself, but also to find a way to protect his family. He convinced his
squad mates to help drive the thugs off, and his family was left alone to continue
their business in peace.

Once his family was able to afford personal bodyguards, Crispus decided to head
back to Phandalin to live a quieter life. His dreams were short lived, as the town
was plagued with mysterious problems soon after his arrival. Unfazed though,
he immediately volunteered to join the Town Watch and help protect the village.

Harold came to town ten years ago, coming from the Neverwinter Wood

the time. His wounds were dressed and he was nursed back to health. He stuck
around since then, doing odd jobs but never opening up to anyone about where
he came from or what happened to him in the forest.

It became quite evident though, as he healed up, that he was quite strong and
good with an axe. He bounced around professions, working as a farmhand,
forester, and hunter, but quickly found his place in the Town Watch as an
enforcer.

Quiet and intimidating, Harold keeps his mind on his work and prefers to stay
away from others. The only person in town he seems to have built any sort of
relationship with is Grum Grumson.

His wife, Elaine, was taken in an Orc raid twenty years ago and he has had no
word of her since. While he desperately wants to find out about her fate, he has

husband with his business as much as she can, usually handling account
payments and doing inventory.

Her family escaped from Thundertree after the eruption of Mt. Hotenow, fleeing
to Phandalin when she was a little girl. She met Thel when she was 15 and they
have been together ever since. She loves her family and is willing to do whatever
it takes to protect them. She still retains some of the knowledge and books from
her parents' apothecary shop in Thundertree, and is one of the only people other

Known Factions Phandalin Militia

Description
Thokk was originally part of the Many-Arrow Tribe. His Human mother was
taken as a trophy by an Orc warlord. From his birth, Thokk was trained to be a
soldier and raider, but his Human nature didn't allow him to ignore the plight of
the non-Orc prisoners in the camp, especially his poor mother. He saw the
emptiness in her eyes, the reluctant acceptance to her life. Thokk didn't want a
part of that life so he fled when he was just 13-years-old. He spent 5 years in the
wilderness surviving on his own until he was found in the forest by Jennifer
Watkins. She pitied him and brought him back to town. Most of the town was
reluctant to allow a Half Orc in the village, especially one from an Orc camp, but
begrudgingly accepted his presence. Thokk was eager to be useful to the town to

joining up with Gareth's militia.
