MY LEARNING INSIGHT DURING OUR DEMO TEACHING IN GRADE 9-
KNOWLEDGE

What did I learned during our demo teaching in Grade 9-knowledge of Notre Dame
University-Junior High School. At first I was nervous thinking “can I do this?”, though I have
experienced having my demo teachings to students but it always feel new to me. Knowing that
learners from the grade 9-knowledge are active learners who loves to ask questions that what
Mam Ginna told us all the time. She is the one who is handling their MAPEH9. I am feeling
nervous because I never handled MAPEH even once in my demonstrations that is why I am
feeling anxious thinking about what if’s. Luckily we were not going to have our demonstration
teaching alone as what is planned at first and it turned out that we will going to do it by pair and
one of us will be doing it individually since we are 15 in our class.
First thing that I learned in my experience in junior high school is to have your
confidence and never get intimidated with your learners. Your confidence will lift you up. If you
know that your learners are intelligent then be confident enough to show them that they can’t
underestimate you even if you are still a student. Also, always equipped yourself knowledge on
the topic you are about to discuss.
Secondly, mastery of the topic. We are always taught that in teaching it is important that
we master the topic we were going to elaborate to the learners. So that we don’t need to look like
we are not prepared or we do not know what we are going to teach in front. During my
demonstration teaching in grade 9- knowledge with my partner, Fretjelyn Lacerna, we divided
our task in teaching she will be the one to open the discussion in giving them activity as a
motivation. Then I was assigned in the lecture-discussion. Since I am fond of throwing questions
about the topic I am going to discuss, the flow went smoothly. But upon discussing the topic I
want to disappear in an instant for all I know I failed to deliver the topic well. Because I honestly
do not master my topic since it is all about art and artist in the romantic period that I haven’t
encountered. So basically, I failed. I should have mastered my lesson even if I am not familiar
with it.
Last thing that I learned is in giving instructions it should be clear and accurate. I
remember it was my buddy who often gives the instruction and as I am listening to her delivering
her instructions it wasn’t clear and understandable. Like when she gives her activity to her
learners the instruction she gave was not that clear that some of the students keep on asking what
to do, not that they didn’t hear the instruction but they have confusion with what are they going
to do exactly. That is why, instructions must be delivered clearly to avoid confusion and
misunderstanding between the teacher and the learners.
MY LEARNING INSIGHT DURING OUR DEMO TEACHING IN GRADE 9-
KNOWLEDGE

My learning insights during facilitating the demo teaching in Notre Dame University-
Junior high school were unforgettable. I get to see different type of learners like I used to
encounter when I was in high school. Though I only have few facilitating experience there but I
must say those times were remarkable. If I were to compare their generation to ours when I was
in high school they were more active and very much curious with anything. You can apparently
see that they have their own thing in life, as if they were organized by their likes and interests.
When I was in high school learning wasn’t that challenging. Though many of us are striving to
be an honor student but in todays’ generation K-12 was now implemented there are things they
experience that we haven’t even encountered.
One of the activity I have facilitated was their theater play. We were one of the raters of
their drama and we are rating them based on the rubrics given to them. I was amazed how they
worked as one, I loved to watch play and I once dreamed to be part of a play where I can act as if
I am an artist. To write scripts is what I used to do when I was in high school, I once said to my
friend that I wanted to be a director and she’ll be the writer since we are sharing the same
interest. They say high school life is the most unforgettable, it was indeed true. Seeing them
working together, cooperating and participating I wish they will stay the same as they grow up
and encounter different people.
As I am observing their act, you can see that it is not just an act they wrote and put in to
life. Instead, if you are really paying attention you can that the story is what is happening to the
world right now. You were being judge by the people who you thought will understand you.
They have created a great concept, they have this teamwork, and they have a good leader/s that
every one of them become a good followers. I will never forget what I taught from Mr. Ruel
Montenegro, our facilitator during our leadership training. He asked is a leader born or made. He
once said what he have observed, everyone is a leader but not everyone can be a good follower.
If you can be a leader then you can also be a good follower. Grade 9 knowledge are indeed
grownups that they can handle themselves and can act as on.
I learned from them that “kapag gusto laging may paraan” and they’ve shown me that
even in young age they can be responsible for not for their own selves but as a whole. I admire
Princess, the leader of their class. How she manage to handle the class in an instant. That there is
a command in her voice, when she said quite everyone follows. I wish I had that voice same as
she have. So that when I have my internship I can have that kind of voice that when I speak
everyone’s attention will be on me. But I know for sure I can do this even if I have this voice
problem for as long as I have the determination and putting my heart to what I do, I can succeed.
As I have experienced it feels good when you were the one who is teaching in front, it is
different from facilitating. As the semester end, I would like to give thanks to our subject
teacher, Dr. Ginna Astillero, she let us experience to become a real teacher and guide in
applying what we have learned in our discussions. She is considering us as pre-service teaching
and prepare us to brace ourselves when it’s about time that we will have our internship. She
never fails to remind us about the things we must keep in mind that we can surely apply in time.
