1.2 Input/output control, functional relationships

Input/output control is the handling of all digital input/

output signals of the CPTronic modular control elec-
tronics.

Control station 201E1

The control station (CP2000 Center) is used for the

display of status information and for the operation of
the press. It is provided with a touch screen and op-
erating buttons for this purpose.

REK1, REK2, SAK2, ESK

The input and output signals are transmitted to the

input/output boards EAK4 via various flat-cable mod-
ules. The processor board in the REK2 slot commu-
nicates with the EAK4 boards via the input/output
control board ESK.
The input/output signals are processed by the pro-
cessor boards in the slots REK1 and REK2 and by
the memory analog board SAK2.

F.5.4
Input/output control

EAK4, EA-FV1 , EA-FV2, EPR2

The input/output PWM backplane 2 can accommo-

date the following electronics boards:

D 10 EAK4 boards
D 2 PWK boards
D 1 SEK2
D 1 NTK

The input/output board EAK4 offers 128 digital input/

output channels (ports). Depending on the applica-
tion (feeder, delivery, printing unit x, ...), these 128
input/output channels are programmed as inputs or
outputs. The software required for this is loaded onto
the EAK4 depending on the board slot. Eight of the
128 input/output channels can be programmed as
4 differential inputs.
To improve the electromagnetic compatibility, the
input/output signals of the EAK4 are filtered by the
input/output filter distributors EA-FV1 and EA-FV2.
The boards are installed at the back side of the cen-
tral control cabinet ZSG as lead-through filters and
are connected to the EPR2 via flat cables. The EA-
FV1/EA-FV2 limit interference voltages on the input/
output signals and dissipate them. The EA-FV1
boards filter the input/output signals from one EAK4
and the safety input signals from one SEK2. The EA-
FV2 boards filter the input/output signals from two
EAK4 boards.
FEM64, FAM64

The flat-cable modules FEM64, FAM64 split the flat

cables from the control system up into single wires
which lead to sensors and actuators in the press
units (feeder, delivery, printing unit x, ...). The mod-
ules are installed in the decentralized control cabi-
nets of the press units.
The FEM64 and FAM64 each have 64 connections
for digital input/output signals. The FEM64 are used
for the digital input signals. The FAM64 are used for
digital input and output signals.

for digital input/output signals. The FUM1/2 are used
for the digital input signals. The FUM3/4 are used for
the digital input and output signals.
Via wire links at terminal strip X3, the FUM1/2 and

Equipment identification

There is a firm connection between the equipment

EAK4_05
identification of the flat-cable modules FAM64,
FEM64, FUM1/2, FUM3/4 and FEM10 on the one
hand, and the post-connected sensors and actuators
on the other hand.
The equipment identification for the flat-cable mod-
ules follows a set pattern across all press units
1A2 1A3
(feeder, delivery, printing units,...). The part of the
FEM64 FAM64 equipment identification behind the position code
(e.g. A2 in the case of 1A2) is identical for all flat-
cable modules of the same type.
The following applies to the equipment identification:
1S224 1-E21-Y309 x position code of press unit x (60, 70,
90, ...)
+1 xA1 always FEM10
xA2 always FEM64
xA3 always FAM64
Fig. 3 Input/output signal flow, printing unit 1
(example) xA4 FUM1/2 at PU1, FEM64 at delivery
xA5 FUM3/4 only at delivery

The equipment identification of the sensors and ac-

tuators contains a reference (number) to the flat-
cable module to which they are post-connected.
Example:

F.5.6
Input/output control

Switch 1S224 is post-connected to the FEM64 with

the equipment identification 1A2.
For this reason, the equipment identification of the
switch contains a 2 behind the identification letter for
the type of equipment (here: S for switch) – just like
the associated FEM64 (1A2).

2.1 EAK4, Safety instruction

Caution – the printing press will mal-

function if the wrong version of the
input/output board EAK is installed!

In printing presses whose control elec-

tronics does not correspond to EMC
level 2 and which are equipped with the
input/output board EAK2, the EAK4 must
not be installed as a replacement for the
EAK2. Otherwise the printing press will
malfunction.

2.3 EAK4, task

The basic task of the EAK4 is to record, prepare and

forward signals which are being sent to or sent from
the control electronics (input/output control board
ESK, processor boards of the board slots REK1 and
REK2).
The EAK4 has 128 ports (input/output channels). In
each case four ports can always be programmed as
inputs or outputs. 120 ports are programmed as in-
puts or outputs.
In addition, 8 ports are defined either

D as 8 inputs or
D as 4 differential inputs.

2.4 EAK4, Function

Status LED

The status LED indicates the operating states of the

EKA4.

D LED flashes: the EAK4 is operating.

D LED OFF (if press has been operational for
some time): the EAK4 is not operating because
of a malfunction of the board electronics or be-
cause of an active reset.
D LED OFF (immediately after the press has been
switched on): the reset for the electronic boards
is still active.

Logic level ports I/O-ICs

I/O-IC digital input:

D Low level 0 V...+3 V

D High level + 4.6 V...+ 24 V

I/O-IC digital output (open collector):

D Low level 0 V...+ 1.15 V

Logic level readback of I/O-IC output assignment

The output assignment of the I/O-ICs is checked

when the control system is initialized. Errors are re-
ported as malfunctions and indicated in the “Output
assignment” service display.
If a load has been connect to the I/O-IC output, then
the I/O-IC reads back a high level.
If no load is connected to the I/O-IC output or if there
is a cable break in the signal line to the load, then
the I/O-IC reads back a low level.

Note
I/O-IC output assignment readback: If
the voltage at the I/O-IC output with no
load connected or with load connected
and with a cable break lies outside the
permissible range of 0...+ 3 V, then most
likely the EAK4 (I/O-IC) is defective.

F.5.11
Input/output control

Loop test

The software of the EAK4 performs the loop test to

check whether the connectors for the connected
FEM64 and FAM64 have been plugged in the correct
order. The result of the test for the given EAK is indi-
cated in the corresponding service display for dyn or
init codes. (See also the topics ”Init Codes, S-
EAK1...S-EAK24”, ”Dyn Codes, S-EAK1...S-EAK4”).

Task

The input/output control board ESK receives and

processes the signals from the encoder IDS. The
ESK provides the electronic control system with par-
allel and serial interfaces. All input and output signals
are transmitted via these interfaces. Thus the differ-
ent components of the control system communicate
with each other via the ESK.

Control of feeder clutch/brake with the ST-BK

signal

The brake/clutch module BKM2 prevents overtravel

of the feeder. This helps to avoid overrunning sheets
and paper jams on the feed table.
The ST-BK control signal from the associated EAK
has the following switching states:

D ST-BK = 1
clutch engaged; brake released.
D ST-BK = 0
clutch disengaged; brake briefly applied
(approx. 1.7 s), then released.

F.5.16
Input/output control

The control logic uses the ST-BK signal to generate

voltages for the control of the feeder clutch (KU) and
feeder brake (BR).
Separate control of brake with the ST-BR signal

The feeder brake can be controlled separately.

The ST-BR control signal from the associated EAK
has the following switching states:

D ST-BR = 0
brake released
D ST-BR = 1
short-time braking

Activating the 48V overexcitation of the feeder

clutch

If the signals ”Coding” and ”GND (coding)” are linked

in connector X2, the feeder clutch will be overexcited
with 48 V instead of 24 V. The 48V overexcitation is
required for feeder clutches with large air gaps.

SVM2

SVM2 The number of interfaces can be increased by

means of the SVM2. Up to four SVM2s can be con-
nected in parallel with the SVM. The SVM must al-
ways be at the end of the flat cable because it has a
terminating resistor for the serial bus.

5.3 SVM/SVM2, task

The SVM and SVM2 multiply a serial interface of the

ESK. Four serial interfaces (X1...X4) can be created
per SVM/SVM2. The only difference between SVM
and SVM2 is their input logic. Contrary to the SVM2
the SVM has a terminating resistor for the serial bus.
The serial interfaces allow the control system to
communicate with the press displays (MID) and ex-
ternal devices with serial interfaces.

Caution - observe the connection se-

quence for SVM and SVM2.

Since only the SVM is equipped with a

terminating resistor, it must always be
connected up at the end of the flat cable.
Otherwise there may be disturbances in
the data transmission over the serial
bus.
