DIGITAL LITERACY 8
This course provides the fundamental knowledge needed to use technology tools in all areas of learning
including Microsoft Office programs and typing to more creative and critical skills represented in
Photoshop, GarageBand, web-design and coding. Additionally, students will become familiar with
responsible Internet usage and effective online researching skills.

THE EXPECTATIONS
GENERAL CLASSROOM BEHAVIOUR:
1. Respect everyone in the room at all times by being an active participant and attentive listener (not
talking while others are talking). Respect others ideas by keeping an open mind.
2. Take responsibility for your actions and ownership over your learning by arriving promptly to class
ready to learn and with the necessary materials.
3. Ensure your own and other’s safety at all times by keeping walkways clear of tripping hazards and
the classroom free of any other harmful materials or behaviours.

*COMPUTER LAB ETIQUETTE:


1. Finish all food and drink BEFORE entering the lab
2. At the start of class and tutorials, please TURN OFF your monitor and await instructions
3. Do not touch any of your classmates’ computers without permission
4. If you finish an assignment early, please see me and begin the next one
5. Make sure to log off your computer at the end of the period

ATTENDANCE:
1. Absences: Parent/ guardian is expected to notify the school of all absences.
a. Please visit my website before the class to find out what you missed.
2. Lates: Please wait silently outside the door, check in with me and enter quietly
3. Missed Work: In the event of an excused absence, you are permitted to complete missed
work. If the absence is unexcused, permission will be granted at my discretion 
4. Leaving class: Ask for permission before leaving and during an appropriate break in
instruction! Only one student may leave the classroom at a time so be quick.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1. SUBMISSIONS: All assignments must have your NAME/DATE/PERIOD displayed at the top
right of the page and be typed or written in blue or black ink.
2. LATE ASSIGNMENTS: Please avoid penalty by turning assignments in on time or requesting
an extension well in advance of the due date.
3. PLAGIARISM: Plagiarize (verb) to take and use as one’s own the thoughts, writings,
inventions, etc. of another. Plagiarism is theft. It is a serious offence and can have legal
implications.

USE OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES:


Use of electronic devices is not permitted at any time during class and should be put on silent and stored
in your bag unless explicitly stated otherwise. Some common exceptions may include phone use during
designated research periods, scheduling homework, and individual music listening during quiet work
periods. At no time should electronic devices cause distraction
