INTERVIEW

Interviewer: Today we are going to interview a great inventor.

Thomas Edison: Good morning and a pleasure to be here with you.

Interviewer: What do you do?

Thomas Edison: I am an entrepreneur and a prolific inventor, considered the most important in
America.

Interviewer: At what age did you become interested in chemistry?

Thomas Edison: He started to interest me at the age of ten.

Interviewer: How did you do in school?

Thomas Edison: At the age of eight and a half I entered school. After three months of attending, I
returned home crying, and told my mother that the teacher had described me as a student "with
some level of delay". I don't know if my mother took the teacher's opinion very seriously or if she
thought she was better than my teacher. The fact is that my mother decided to take care of my
studies on her own.

Interviewer: And how did your venture start?

Thomas Edison: I started by installing my first lab in the basements of my parents' house, where I
learned only the basics of chemistry and electricity.

Interviewer: When did you become independent?

Thomas Edison: I became independent when I was only sixteen years old, the population where I
lived was small.

Interviewer: How did you get ahead when you became independent?

Thomas Edison: Luckily, I mastered perfectly the trade of telegraphist and the civil war had left
many vacancies, it was easy for me to find work.

Interviewer: Could you give us some names of some of your inventions?

Thomas Edison: The telegraph, the quadruple, the carbon microphone, the nickel batteries, the
light bulb, the electric vehicle etc...

Interviewer: Which invention are you most proud of?

Thomas Edison: It's hard to choose, they're all very much appreciated by me, but if I had to
choose I'd stick with the locomotive or the electric battery.

Interviewer: Could you tell us some of the phrases that made him famous?

Thomas Edison: Of course: "I didn't fail, I only discovered 999 ways of how not to make a light
bulb", "Show me a satisfied man and I will show you a failed man".

Interviewer: If you were born again, would you be doing the same thing again?

Thomas Edison: Of course, I wouldn't doubt it for a second.

Interviewer: Well, Mr Thomas, thank you very much for your cooperation.

Thomas Edison: Thank you.
