Data Gathering Procedures

 The design of the study, whether it is a case study, a survey, a controlled experiment, a meta- analysis
or some other type of research, is conveyed through the procedures subsection. It is here that the
activities of the researcher are described , such as what was said to the participants, how groups were
formed, what control mechanisms were employed etc. The description is sufficient if enough details is
present for the reader to replicate the essential elements of the study. It is important for the procedures
to conform to ethical criteria for researchers.
 Paragraph 1: conceptualization of the research through review of literature e.g. electronic searched
(EBSCOhost,
ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, NIOSH, Find Articles, MedLine, PubMed, Highwire press, Physical Therapy
Journal, JOSPT, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, using the search terms), library work …
 Paragraph 2: drafting of the research proposal and presentation before a panel then revision based on
panels’
feedback.
 Paragraph 3: actual data gathering procedure. The pilot testing of the tool, recruitment of the
participants,
implementation of the research protocol and Data gathering procedures
 Paragraph 4: Tabulation of data gather.

The purpose of this phase is to formulate a sound and feasible thesis proposal. A review of
literature was conducted to serve as background of the study. Literature was electronically searched
using the following databases: Google scholar, The Open Nursing Journal, BMC Medical Education,
Medline, PubMed, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, Journal of
Medical Internet Research, British Journal of Nursing, Science direct using the search terms CoVID-19,
distant learning, coping strategies, anxiety, depression, nursing students.
The thesis proposal was drafted and will be presented and revised accordingly based on the
panel’s feedback.
Informed consent forms, letters and questionnaire were also drafted during this phase.
The researchers will send a letter to the dean of the College of Medicine and Allied Medical
Professionals at La Consolacion University of the Philippines requesting permission to conduct the study,
including the purposes and objectives of the study, via email. After the letter has been approved, all
participants were provided a written informed consent to be informed about the objective of the study
and clarified the various constituents of the questionnaires. After obtaining the consent of the
participants, a Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) by Dr. Kurt Kroenke and Generalised Anxiety
Disorder Assessment (GAD-7) were distributed and answered online via google form. Also, the
participant’s information will remain strictly confidential. After obtaining all necessary data from the
participants

A self-administered questionnaire with 18 items, and a 10-items validated questionnaire (Actual

English version with Arabic translation), ie, “Kessler 10 Psychological Distress” (K10)’ was used. Both
questionnaires were distributed online through a google form. All medical students were provided with
a written consent form to be informed about the objective of the study and clarified the various
constituents of the questionnaires. We collected demographic information in the first part, second part
comprised of distress instrument (Kessler 10) to observe the medical students’ activities during the past
four weeks, the third part contained the academic variables with six items, the fourth part asked about
psychological variables with five items. Finally, we patterned the students coping strategies with seven
items in the current COVID-19 situation.
