SLAB CULVERTS

1. Sources of Materials:
1.1. Coarse Aggregates: From local crushers after establishing suitability as per standards
and obtaining approval for use until our own crusher is established and production
starts.
1.2. Fine Aggregates: River sand shall be used. The requisite tests shall be conducted and
approvals shall be sought for use.
1.3. Cement: Cement from approved manufacturers / sources shall be used.
1.4. Water: The water of approved quality shall be used.
1.5. Admixtures: In the event of using transit mixers for transport and pumps for laying,
appropriate and approved admixtures shall be used.

2. Production, Transportation, Laying and Curing of concrete:


2.1. The concrete of appropriate mix shall be produced in concrete batching plant. Initially
until the batching plant is commissioned to save project time and as the structure is of
minor nature, the concrete shall be produced at site using tilting concrete mixers and
weight batching of ingredients as approved.
2.2. The concrete produced at batching plant shall be transported to the site of pour by
transit mixers.
2.3. The concrete is laid in place through chutes from the transit mixers.
2.4. Curing is effectively done by covering the concrete surfaces by gunnies and wetting the
gunnies at close intervals or by ponding.

3. Tests and Sampling Procedures:


3.1. The sampling of all materials as per specifications shall be collected and tested in the
laboratory established at site for this project.

4. Equipment Details:
4.1. Batching Plant: Batching plant shall be used for production of concrete.
4.2. Vibrators: Pin vibrators shall be used for effective compaction of concrete.

5. Safety, Environment Etc.:


5.1. All effective and requisite measures shall be implemented to ensure full safety to all the
concerned work force, machinery & general public.
5.2. Effective and sufficient care shall be taken to minimize damage to the environment and
cleanliness in all works is given the utmost importance.

6. Diversion of Water:
6.1. The requisite and efficient methods are adapted to suit the particular need of diverting
the water.
6.2. The approval is sought prior to the implementation of any method.

7. Activities:
7.1. Prerequisites:
7.1.1. Obtain & Check latest construction drawing.
7.1.2. The locations are marked and get checked by the Concessionaire’s
representative.
7.1.3. The benchmarks shall be established after connecting with the GTS benchmarks
in the region.
7.1.4. The grid levels shall be recorded and got verified by Concessionaire’s
representative.
7.1.5. The correct length of culvert is calculated and joints are planned with reference
to the structure in the existing carriageway.
7.1.6. The drawings are prepared as per ground requirements and approval of
Concessionaire’s is sought.
7.1.7. The approval for the appropriate concrete Mix design is obtained.
7.1.8. The layout is setout and beacons are established and protected.

7.2. Main Activity:


7.2.1. ITP & IRB are initiated.
7.2.2. Excavation for foundations is made to required level and lines.
7.2.3. Bed is compacted and leveling concrete is laid.
7.2.4. Shuttering shall be made and the abutments are concreted in various lifts of
suitable height and vibrated.
7.2.5. The shuttering is made to support the roof structure and reinforcement is tied in
position as per drawing.
7.2.6. The roof concrete is poured, vibrated and cured. The formwork is removed after
due time as per norms and all blemishes are made good.
7.2.7. The existing structure is dealt as scheduled. If dismantling is envisaged the pre-
measurements are recorded and submitted for check by Concessionaire’s
representative.
7.2.8. The repair / re-establish / modify the existing structure shall be carried out as
planned.
7.2.9. The inlet & Outlet structures are constructed.
7.2.10. The surroundings are cleared of all surplus stocks, waste materials etc., and
cleaned.
7.2.11. The structure is finished as per specifications including necessary markings,
paints etc., and completed.

7.3. The structure is handed over to the client.
