Internet Worksheet: 

Lonely Planet On-line-assignment.

Today we're going to visit the Lonely Planet web site.

(http://www.lonelyplanet.com)  Lonely Planet publishes books and travel


guides on a large number of interesting travel destinations
worldwide.  Go to the above address and scroll down the page.  Look at
the main categories.  What type of information do you think each
category will offer?

1. Click on World guide.  This area of the site provides extensive


information on thousands of cities and countries.  Answer the questions
"Where do you want to go?" by typing in the word "Sydney."  How many
matches do you find?  Click on Lonely Planet's Guide to Sydney.   Find
three fun inexpensive things to do in Sydney.  Find out a little bit on the
background of Sydney.  Would you like to visit this city?  Why or why
not?

2. Now, return to the main Destinations page. (Use the back button on
your browser or click on the Destinations icon at the bottom of the page.) 
Choose another place to search for.  Take a few minutes to explore your
own destination.

3. Return to the Destinations page. Click on the continent Europe. You


are going to find out more about the following countries: Belgium,
Ireland and Greece.
 What is the capital city?
 What languages do they speak?
 What kind of government do they have?
 What are they famous for?
 Would you like to visit these countries? Which one do you think is
the most interesting?

4. Visit the Thorn Tree.   This is a discussion forum where travelers can
share advice and information. Spend a few minutes reading the messages
people have posted. Give me a short summary of a message.
5. Click on Postcards.  This is where travelers write in to share advice
and travel tips.  Choose your home country and see what people who
have visited are saying about it.

6. Finally, click on SubWWWay.  This is Lonely Planet's links page to


other travel web sites.  Click on CASKE 2000. Find out the following:
“How can you prevent a shark attack?”
 
In-class Assignment:
Send your teacher an e-mail. In your e-mail, tell me the following:
 The information you obtained for each question.
 What was one interesting thing you learned from today's lesson?
