Connectivity of STS to My Course

Activity # 1

Objectives:

1. To relate science, technology and society to my course.

2. To be able to have a personal concept about the subject.

Materials:

 Computer
 Cellphone

Procedures:

1. Gather all the needed information.

2. Gather all the needed materials for the diagram making (I use a Venn diagram in word
document)
3. Inside the diagram, list down the connectivity of STS and BSME (my course).
4. Using the computer, type the explanation of the connection/relation of STS and BSME,
which was described in the diagram.
5. After editing and making sure that the diagram and the explanation is okay, send it to the
google classroom.

Connection of STS in relation to my course BSME

This subject has a huge connection to my course, BSME, because basically BSME is all about
combination of engineering physics and mathematics principles with materials science to design,
analyze, manufacture and maintain mechanical systems. Science is already connected to the said
definition, without it, Mechanical engineers will have a hard time analyzing some data. The scientific
knowledge enters in this area. Scientific knowledge is the bases why engineers has the knowledge about
physics and chemistry (which is the major part of this course to know) and the ability to properly
execute the right formula in solving trouble shoot. Scientific research is needed in order to have a solid
plan for some new inventions that is needed by the people in order to have an easier access on
something, like for example the technology. Mechanical engineers are a great help in many aspects and
in many departments because without them, we won’t have machines that is very much helpful
nowadays. Technological innovation the technology part in STS, where comprises new products and
processes and significant technological changes of products and processes. We know that every time
there are always new upgrades of the technology in order for the engineers (ME) to have a more
accurate product or processes to make for the benefit of the people. Also, because of this pandemic,
people will really rely mostly in technology like the cellphone, computers, laptops and etc. to still have
connection to other people through the use of social media. Manufacturing, it is very beneficial to the
society in order to have an economic development. It contributes to higher productivity and rising living
standards amongst both developing and advanced economies.

All in all, without the science, technology and society; my course will be much like of a cake
without all the ingredients that will result to a greater destruction and lack taste (in my course, lack of
important part to be able to fully understand all about my course). This STS subject will help me broaden
my knowledge and capacity in understanding and performing my course accurately and effectively.
