HEALTH TEACHING PLAN

(revised 2021)

ASSESSMENT OF THE FAMILY:

The family Gonzales, consisting of 3 individuals aged, 20, 45, and 51 is observed to be living in unsanitary conditions i.e. dirty floor, and no proper
disposal of garbage within home. Furthermore, the kitchen is highly ventilated with a breeze that passes from the backyard containing livestock i.e. 4
chickens, and 2 pigs making the kitchen vicinity prone to the accumulation of flies, as well as other microorganisms that may have invaded via the aid
breeze, or other means.

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (n.d.) mentions the risk of keeping poultry in the confines of a backyard, as handling livestock
increases an individual’s susceptibility to zoonotic diseases, especially when proper hand washing is not practiced.

The World Health Organization (n.d.) explains that the common housefly naturally feeds on food-wastes or left over organic products, and lives in
close proximity to humans, since these organisms behaviour entails the exposure to decomposing waste, they transport a significant number of disease causing
agents leaving areas saturated with flies unhealthy to live in. Thus, it is of utmost importance to remove catalysts that may aid with their proliferation i.e. dung
(animal faeces), garbage and waste from cooking or processing food, sewage, organic manure, and accumulated plant matter.

NURSING DIAGNOSIS:
Knowledge deficit related to lacking cleanliness, and sanitization of home.
Risk for contamination related to unsanitary living conditions.

GOAL:
The Gonzales family will be able to acquire basic knowledge on proper sanitation and demonstrate hygienic practices.
TOPIC: Sanitation and Proper Food Handling
