Project No. : 1231

1. The above nozzles loads are not applicable for storage tank, plate heat exchanger, double pipe
heat exchanger, air cooled heat exchangers or shell and tube heat exchangers 6” NB and
below.
2. All forces and moments in the above table are negative and ‘sign notation’ is as per WRC bulletin
107. If other solution methods are used, force as and moments shall be converted to the
applicable ‘sign notation’.
3. The supplier shall ensure that all thickness of shell/head also process nozzles shall be suitable
for the nozzle loads shown in the above table and provide the necessary local load calculations
in accordance with WRC bulletin 107 and ASME VIII DIV 1.
4. All the forces and moments act on the intersection of the nozzle axis with the mid- thickness of
the shell or head plates.
5. The above table represents the effect of pipe reactions resulting from the combined pressure,
sustained weight, wind or earthquake and thermal loads and/or moments. The maximum
computed stress must not exceed:
3 X CODE ALLOWABLE STRESS AT DESIGN METAL TEMPERATURE
The calculated thermal expansion stress shall be based on the modules of elasticity at room
temperature.
6. Stress at the nozzle junction as well as pad edge must also be computed without thermal loads.
The forces or moments repressing pressure, sustained weight, wind or earthquake shall be taken
as 40% of the values in the above table.
The maximum computed stress for pressure, sustained weight and occasional loading must not
exceed:-
1.5 X CODE ALLOWABLE STRESS AT DESIGN METAL TEMP. OR CODE
ALLOWABLE YIELD STRESS AT DESIGN METAL TEMP. WHICHEVER IS
SMALLER.
7. It is recommended that the supplier notify the purchaser of cases where calculations require an
increase in thickness of shell/head or the reinforcing greater than construction code and/or
project specification allowable thickness. In such cases, the standard loads may be reduced by
the purchaser upon written request by the supplier. Such agreed specific loads shall then be
indicated on the equipment drawings.
8. All cost for the above reinforcement must be included in the supplier’s price.
9. Loading nomenclature:

F= P Radial (axial) load

F= VC Circumferential shear load
F= VL Longitudinal shear load
M= MC Circumferential moment
M= ML Longitudinal moment
M= MT Torsional moment
