What do you know about Police Ethics in general sense?
 All I know is that it is important that Law enforcement officers must
safeguard the public's trust to perform their jobs effectively. Because
ethical conduct greatly impacts public trust, law enforcement agencies
must closely examine their policies, reward systems, and training to ensure
that their agency fosters a culture of firm ethical values.

What do you think good ethics and values are important in each of us?
 Good ethics and values is important to each of us, ethics serve as a guide to
moral daily living and helps us judge whether our behavior can be justified.
Ethics refers to society's sense of the right way of living our daily lives. It
does this by establishing rules, principles, and values on which we can base
our conduct.

Questions:
What might happen if morality is observed on other way around?
 Well, when enough people think that something is immoral they will work
to have a law that will forbid it and punish those that do it. When enough
people think that something is moral, they will work to have a law that
forbids it and punishes those that do it repealed or, in other words, if there
is a law that says doing X is wrong and illegal and enough people no longer
agree with that then those people will work to change that law.

What do you think is the moral conduct and ethical standards that are important
in the PNP?
 Values of love of God, respect for authority, selfless love and service for
people, sanctity of marriage, and family life, responsible dominion and
stewardship over material things, and truthfulness.

What would happen if the ethical standard of the PNP is not being observed?
 The PNP personnel can lose their job and reputation, organizations can lose
their credibility, general morale and productivity can decline, or the
behavior can result in significant fines and/or financial loss.

How do you think Police officer should observed professional principles?

 A professional code of ethics is designed to ensure police officers are
behaving in a manner that is socially acceptable and respectful of one
another. It establishes the rules for behavior and sends a message to every
police that universal compliance is expected.

Why do you think to internalize the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics?
 I think of internalizing the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics for the purpose
of insuring that all peace officers are fully aware of their individual
responsibilities to maintain their own integrity and that of their agency,
every peace officer, during basic training, or at the time of appointment,
shall be administered the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.
Why do you think a tenet of discipline is important to criminology students?
 A tenet of discipline is important to a criminology student because it
provides an ideal place for learning wherein the students will not only
acquire knowledge and skills but also develop behavior similar to a real
criminal justice practitioner as they pursue higher levels of learning.

Furthermore, the badge flashes incessantly to the mind and heart of the
policeman his inescapable concern, commitment and obligation to uphold at all
times the constitution and be loyal to his country, people and organization over
and above loyalty to any other person or organization.

ASSESSMENT:
1. Ethics is defined as the “standards of conduct and moral requirements”
necessary to function effectively within an organization or profession.
a. In the law enforcement context, explain what ethics is. (20 points)
 Police ethics refers to a system of moral values that are generally accepted
as professional standards in policing.

2. There are many challenges to Police Ethical Behavior that affect the PNP
organization. An example of this is the involvement of some PNP members in
crimes as perpetrator rather than protector. Based on statistics, most crimes
by police officers were found to have been committed by patrolman (PO1) –
Police Staff Sergeant (PO3) ranks.
a. From the facts above, identify one glaring reason why some members of
the PNP organization are involved in the commission of crimes. Justify
your answer. (Not more than 50 words) (30 points).
 In my own perspectives, in our country to “join” the police department you
had to pay or know somebody in order for you to get a position. Why would
they pay? Because they knew that there was more money to be made from
the bribes and from looking the other way during illegal activities than from
a meager salary. Corruption is one of the worst maladies affecting any
police force. They have been entrusted with the well-being of the
population and instead of protecting them, they become their victimizers. It

b. What solution can you proposed to at least minimize or eradicate the

reason (your answer in letter a) that affects of the PNP? (Not more than
30 words) (30 points)

 The innovative steps police departments take to reduce or eliminate

corruption can be improving the way departments hire and train officers in
ethics and cultural awareness, collecting data to track traffic stops and
other encounters with citizens, and soliciting community input through
citizen review boards, ombudsmen or community problem-solving
initiatives.
