UNIT 1
INTRODUCTION
English as an International Language. People often talk about English as a global
language. As we know that more than 350 million people around the world speaking English
as a first language and more than 430 million speaking it as a second language, there are
English speakers in most countries around the world. Therefore, why is English so popular,
though? And why has it become a global language?
Most multinational companies require a certain degree of English proficiency from
potential employees so in order to get a position with a top company, more and people or
students are learning English. A course in English as a foreign language which takes students to
an upper intermediate level of communicative competence. So that, they can improve their
language skills, boost both confidence and their Curiculum Vitae. Fresh graduate nursing
students who are learning English well and obtain good mark in English proficiency test for
example, will to communicate easier with patients in ward and colleagues in English.

Internet’s content in English, some learners are motivated simply by wanting to experience
all that content in its original form.
The simple present says that something was true in the past, is true in the present and will
be true in the future. It is used for general statement of fact.
For example:

The simple present is used to express habitual or everyday activity. For example:
1. Nursing students who stay in the dormitory, study for two hours every night.

When you write a sentence in simple present tense, certain verbs are not used in the
progressive tenses. With these verbs, the simple present may indicate a situation that exists
right now, at the moment of speaking. For example:

We use the present simple to talk about states and situations that are always true. For
example:
I’m allergic to antibiotic drug. (= this is a fact about the speaker’s health which is
always true).
Antibiotic drugs makes me very sick. (= I am always sick when I take antibiotic).

Simple present tesnse is giving instructions to a patient using the imperative. For
example:
