PROJECT CONTROLS GROUP MASTER SCHEDULER JOB

DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the development and oversight of the master schedule to manage the execution of
the capacity expansion project at Company ABC.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The project controls group master scheduler is responsible for the development of the detailed project master
schedule for the large-scale capacity expansion project at Company ABC. Key responsibilities will include
coordination with Company ABC and internal project managers to develop the detailed project master schedule,
support of the finance and accounting teams to support earned value management requirements, and overall
coordination of key schedule activities and project milestones. Specific job responsibilities include:
• Coordinate key schedule development activities to support the project director, project manager and all
contractors during the initial development of the project master schedule, and ensure alignment with earned
value management and internal reporting and forecasting requirements.
• Facilitate regular scheduling/planning sessions with the project director and project manager to develop and
update the project master schedule through the identification of relationships between key activities and
milestones and a logical sequence through precedence diagramming, dependency determination, and/or leads
and lags.
• Develop a schedule template for use by Company ABC to ensure consistent format of schedule data, and
support company requirements for earned value management reporting and forecasting.
• Develop and manage a schedule change log, ensuring that schedule baselines are agreed upon and
controlled for earned value management metrics and properly reported to all responsible parties.
• Provide recommendations for continuous improvement to the project director and project manager on all
subjects, including scheduled maintenance, earned value management, resource management and risk
management.
• Communicate with scheduling personnel in (Insert Location) to link project schedules, milestones, budgets and
Company XYZ/contractor resources for enhanced efficiency, effectiveness and productivity at both project
locations.
• Measure the project progress and monitor key milestones, critical path activities and change orders to provide
regular reporting to the Company XYZ senior leadership team and board of directors as well as Company XYZ
project directors and project managers.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• Have a minimum of five years in a scheduling role in a project management environment.

• Own a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Possess related experience in the manufacturing/industrial products industry.
• Own a bachelor's degree, preferably within a business area, such as program management or engineering
area, such as chemical or civil engineering.
• Have a PMI Scheduling Professional accreditation (PMI-SP) or other equivalent accreditation recognizing
demonstrated knowledge and advanced expertise.
• Prove ability to generate project schedules incorporating financial information in a formal reporting environment
using software and Microsoft Project along with other elements of the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
• Demonstrate experience with maintaining and progressing schedules and extracting necessary data from busy
professionals, using good interpersonal skills.
• Exhibit a high degree of proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Show commitment to a disciplined project management approach.
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to make necessary status
reports.

POSITION SCOPE/CONTRIBUTION

Company XYZ is currently performing two key capital projects to expand capacity at existing facilities in XX. The
XX project is estimated at approximately $XX billion and the XX, IA expansion project is estimated at $XX billion.
The project controls scheduler will be responsible for the development and oversight of project schedules and the
performance of various project control tasks at each location.

DETAILED JOB ACTIVITIES AND TIME ALLOCATION

Generate a schedule model in the scheduling tool to set 5%


an initial, high-level baseline based on internal
determinations.

Work with Company ABC to obtain initial schedule data 20%


and monthly updates for incorporation into the project
master schedule. Before incorporation, verify that the
schedule data is sufficient and in compliance with the
schedule template provided.

Review the consolidated master schedule for 5%


discrepancies and address them with Company ABC.

Integrate change Monitor the development of change orders and ensure 15%
management. their inclusion in the software as forecasted vs. actual
changes.

Report on Prepare summarizations of the project schedule, key 20%


projects. milestones, critical path activities and change orders to
assist in preparing regular and ad hoc project reporting.
