5: Stripper selection
STAMP
MECH INSP
Note: strippers have varying chemical compositions and react with paint in diverse ways.
Lapsed times for stripper action may vary. It’s important to leave strippers on the test patch
until reaction is completed, as the best stripper is not necessarily the one that reacts first –
penetration into the paintwork is also important.

5.1: Use appendix A document A2 to select the proper stripper, which

shall be used.

6: STRIPPING
STAMP
MECH INSP

6.1: apply stripper evenly and where possible, avoid loading of masked areas.
Follow manufacturer’s instructions at all times.

6.2: ensure stripper is not allowed to dry out.

6.3: when removing stripper from substrate, use only non-metallic scrapers.

6.4: When stripping is complete, wash and remove all remaining stripper from
the aircraft per stripper manufacturers recommendations.
6.5: Record stripping process details in Appendix A, document A.3.

Caution:
- Ensure staff using stripper are aware of application times as per technical date sheet.
- The use of power hoses must be controlled, damage may occur if aimed at window blanks,
etc. and cause stripper ingress.
- Interspan areas of wings and horizontal stabilizers painted with G 12E25 do not require the
use of stripper for removal. Degreaser C 3/41 applied by cloth will suffice.
