A song to Peace: Let the sun rise in the sky, and light up the day, the spark that is in prayer will not bring us
back. He, whose candle has been extinguished and who is buried in the dust, bitter tears won’t awaken him,
won’t return him here. Noone will return us from the deep dark pit; here neither the joy of victory nor songs
of praise will help. Therefore sing a song to Peace, don’t whisper a prayer, better that you sing a song to
Peace, with a loud shout. Let the sun shine in through the flowers, don’t look back, let us move forward.
Lift your eyes in hope, don’t look through gunsights, sing a song to love and not to wars. Don’t say, a day
will come; bring that day, for it is not a dream, and in all the plazas shout for Peace.

Next Year: we’ll sit on the porch and count migrating birds; children on holidays will play ‘chasey’
between the house and the fields. You will yet see how good it will be, next year. Red grapes will ripen by
evening and will be served chilled; sleepy breezes will carry old newspapers in a cloud into the crossroads.
Next year we will open our hands to the radiant white light, a white heron will spread her wings like a light,
and the sun will shine through them...(Music: Nurit Hirsh; lyrics: Ehud Manor)

Katyusha, is a Soviet wartime song about a girl longing for her beloved, who is away on military service. The music was
composed in 1938 by Matvei Blanter, and the lyrics was written by Mikhail Isakovsky. Wikipedia: "The song was first sung by
female students from a Russian industrial school in Moscow to bid farewell to Russian soldiers going on the battle front against
Nazi Germany in July 1941, who were deeply touched by the song. The song quickly became popular throughout the USSR; it
instigates the soldiers to fight against the invading Germans. This helped play a role to the eventual victory of the USSR." So, the
Russian love song was actually a powerful weapon against the Nazis!

Russian words and English translation

Rastsvietali iabloni i grushi, Apple and pear trees were a-blooming,

Paplyli tumany nad rikoy. Mist (was) creeping on the river.
Vykhadi-i-la na bierieg Katyusha, Katyusha set out on the banks,
Na vysokij bierieg na krutoj. On the steep and lofty bank.

Vykhadila, pesniu zavadila She was walking, singing a song

Pra stiepnova, sizova arla, About a grey steppe eagle,
Pra tavo-o katorova liubila, About her true love,
Pra tavo, chi pisma bieregla. Whose letters she was keeping.

Oj ty, pesnia, pesenka devichia, Oh you song! Little song of a maiden,

Ty leti za iasnym solntsem vsled. Head for the bright sun.
I bajtsu na dalnem pograniche And reach for the soldier on the far-away border
Ot Katyushi pieriedaj priviet. Along with greetings from Katyusha.

Pust on vspomnit dzievushku prastuiu, May he remember an ordinary girl,

Pust uslyshit, kak ana payot, And hear how she sings,
Pust on ze-emliu bierezhot radnuiu, Let him preserve the Motherland,
A liubov Katyusha zbierezhot. Same as Katyusha preserves their love.

The wind is blowing a chill, let’s add some wood to the fire, and so in the arms of the crimson flame, it will rise like a sacrifice;
the fire flickers and its song rises as the coffee pot turns. The fire will whisper to the wood, as our faces turn red from the fire, if
we get reinforcements, from every leftover branch in the garden, every tree and every log will sing so softly as the coffee pot
turns. Words - Chaim Chefer, Music - Moshe Wilenski (adapted from an Armenian folk song).

Jerusalem of Gold: The mountain air is clear as wine, and the scent of pines, is carried on the breeze of
twilight, with the sound of bells. And in the slumber of tree and stone, captured in her dream, the city that
sits alone, and in her heart - a wall. Chorus: Jerusalem of gold, and of bronze, and of light, am I not a violin
for all your songs. How the cisterns have dried, the market-place is empty, and no one frequents the Temple
Mount, in the Old City. And in the caves in the mountain, winds are wailing, and no one goes to the Dead
Sea, by way of Jericho. As I come to sing to you today, and to adorn you with crowns, I am the smallest of
the youngest of your children, and from the last of the poets. For your name sears the lips, like the kiss of a
seraph, if I forget thee, O Jerusalem, which is all of gold... We have returned to the cisterns, to the market
and to the market-place, a shofar calls out on the Temple Mount, in the Old City. And in the caves in the
mountain, thousands of suns shine - we will once again descend to the Dead Sea, by way of Jericho!

watch over all that is good. For the flame that is burning, the water running pure, the man returning home
from far away. Chorus: Over all these, God please watch for me, over the honey and the sting, over the
bitter and the sweet. Do not uproot what is planted, do not forget the hope, return me, and I will return to
the good land. Watch over this house for me, my God, the garden, and the wall, protect them from pain,
from sudden fear, and from war. Watch over for me the little I have, the light, the baby, over the fruit that
has not ripened, and over what has already been reaped.

Theme: There are so many things in my life still left undone - I have not loved (or lived) enough.
I have not yet loved enough (My love is still unfulfilled): With these hands I have not yet built a village, I
Have not yet found water in the middle of the desert, I have not yet painted a flower, I have not yet found
how my path will lead me and where I am destined. Chorus: O O, I have not yet loved enough, (I feel) the
wind and sun on my face. O O I have not yet said, “Enough” (have not given up), and if not now, then
when? (Will I do what I need to do). I have not yet planted a lawn, I have not built a city, I have not yet
planted a vineyard on the chalk mountains, I have not done things completely with my own hands, I have
not tried everything, I have not loved enough. I have not yet raised a tribe, I have not yet written a song, I
have not yet had snow fall on me in the middle of the harvest, I have not yet written my memoirs, I have not
yet built the house of my dreams. And even though you are here, and you are so beautiful, from you I flee,
as if from a plague, there are still so many things that I wish to do, you will surely forgive me this year too.

Friend of my soul, Merciful Father, draw your servant to Your Will. Your servant will run, like a deer, and
bow before Your Glory. Your affection is sweeter than honeycomb and every pleasant taste....
Glorious One, Light of the world, my soul is sick for your Love, please heal it by showing Your radiance,
then it will strenghten and heal and have everlasting joy...
Ancient One, may your Mercy arise, and show compassion for Your love child. For so long I have longed
to see the glory of Your majesty. This my heart desires, have pity and don’t hide Yourself....
Reveal Yourself my beloved, and cover me with the shelter of Your peace. Let the earth be illuminated by
Your glory, and we will rejoice in You. Please hurry Beloved, for the time has come, be gracious to us, as
in days of old.
This beautiful poem is commonly attributed to the sixteenth century kabbalist, Rabbi Elazar ben Moshe
Azikri (1533-1600), who first published it in Sefer Charedim (published in Venice 1601), but Azikri did not
claim authorship of it and there have been other suggested authors (e.g. Judah Halevi, or Israel Nagara).

Words: Shaul Tshernichovsky, Odessa, 1892, Russian folk melody. You may laugh, laugh at my dreams,
you may laugh because I still believe in mankind, for I still believe in you. For my soul still longs for
freedom, I have not sold her for a golden calf, for I yet believe in mankind, and in his mighty spirit. And I
still believe in the future, be it seemingly far away today, but a day will dawn, when peace will come, and
nations will bless one another.

A caravan in the desert: To the right and to the left, only sand and more sand, the desert is yellow, and
without a path. A caravan passes by, moving quietly, there, incredibly, like an image in a dream, and a
sound rises and falls in a rhythm, camels are stepping, in this sad scenery, lin lan, this is the song of a
wanderer, it is a quiet song, like stepping to a drumbeat. Words - Yaakov Fichman, music - David Zahavi

Girl’s Lullaby: Nighttime, nighttime, the wind grows stronger, nighttime, nighttime the treetops murmur,
nighttime nighttime, a star is singing, sleep, sleep, blow out the candle....Close your eyes, on the way to you,
three armed horsemen rode...One was devoured, one died by the sword, and the remaining one didn’t
remember your name...The wind grows stronger, the tree tops murmur, only you wait, and the road is empty.

We were slaves. Now we are free men (lit. the children of freedom).

When Israel was in Egypt’s land, 39 Refrain: Go down, Moses,

Let My people go! Way down in Egypt’s land;
Oppressed so hard they could not stand, Tell old Pharaoh
Let My people go! To let My people go!

Thus spoke the Lord," bold Moses said As Israel stood by the water side
"Let my people go! Let my people go!
If not, I'll smite your firstborn dead. At God's command it did divide
Let my people go!" Let my people go!
When they reached the other shore You need not always weep and mourn
Let my people go! Let my people go!
They sang a song of triumph o'er And wear these slav'ry chains forlorn
Let my people go! Let my people go!

Lyrics - Oded Avishar; music - Arie Levanon. Again the flocks wander down the village street, and dust rises from
the sandy paths And far away the bells merge with the gathering shadows; evening falls. Again the wind whispers
through the garden fences, and the doves coo from the top of the cypress. In the distance the last rays of the sun caress
the hillsides; evening falls. Again the rose dreams, langorous dreams, and gradually, up high, the stars begin to
twinkle. Afar in the dark valley, the jackal accompanies the approach of night; night falls, night falls.

Words: Michael Kashtan, tune: Amitai Na’aman. We will yet return to the ancient melody. The song will continue
and we'll raise another glass, with bright and cheerful eyes. Chorus: Our tents are filled with goodness, because the
dance lifts us up, as we return to the ancient melody.

Kupalinka (Belorussian lullaby) 46 Transliteration by Zhenya Russian

Kupalinka, Kupalinka, Kupalinka, Kupalinka
Tseomnaya nochka, Its dark in the night. Where is your
Tseomnaya nochka, A dze zh tvaya dochka? (x 2) daughter, Kupalinka?
Maya dochka u sadochku My daughter is in the garden
Ruzhu, ruzhu polits’, She weeds the rose
Ruzhu, ruzhu polits’, Bely ruchki kolits’. (x 2) And wounds her white hands

Kvetachki rvets’, kvetachki rvets’ She picks the flowers

Vianochki zvivaje, And weaves garlands
Vianochki zvivaje, Slyozki pralivaje. (x 2) And sheds tears
Ochi Chornyye 47 Black Eyes
Ochi chornyye, ochi strastnyye, Oh, these gorgeous eyes, dark and glorious
Ochi zhguchiye i prekrasnyye! eyes,
Burn-with-passion eyes, how you hypnotise!
Kak lyublyu ya vas, kak boyus' ya vas! How I adore you so, how I fear you though,
Znat' uvidel vas ya v nedobryi chas! Since I saw you glow! Now my spirit’s low!
Okh nedarom vy glubiny temnei! Darkness yours conceal mighty fires real;
Vizhu traur v vas po dushe moyei, They my fate will seal: burn my soul with
zeal!
Vizhu plamya v vas ya pobednoye: But my love for you, when the time is due,
Sozhzheno na nyom serdtse bednoye. Will refresh anew like the morning dew!
No ne grusten ya, ne pechalen ya, No, not sad am I, nor so mad am I;
Uteshitel'na mne sud'ba moya: All my comforts lie in my destiny.
Vsyo chto luchshevo v zhizni Bog dal Just to realise my life’s worthiest prize
nam,
V zhertvu otdal ya ognevym glazam!: Did I sacrifice for those ardent eyes!
Ochi Chornyye is the most famous Russian romance song written by Ukranian poet Yevhen Hrebinka in 1843.
Black eyes, passionate eyes, Burning and beautiful eyes! How I love you, how I fear you, It seems I met you in
an unlucky hour! Oh, not for nothing are you darker than the deep! I see mourning for my soul in you, I see a
triumphant flame in you: A poor heart immolated in it. But I am not sad, I am not sorrowful, My fate is soothing
to me: All that is best in life that God gave us, In sacrifice I returned to the fiery eyes.

kingdom and your rule goes from generation to generation. And it was, as the Ark travelled, Moses said: Arise, O Lord,

of the Lord from Jerusalem. Blessed is He who gave the Law (Torah) to his people Israel in His holiness.

Angels and mortals, beasts and birds.

Were we to live a thousand years, there would not be time enough to tell of Your might!

O Chanukah O Chanuka a festival of joy
A holiday a jolly day for every girl and boy
Spin the whirling dreidel all week long
Tell the age-old story, sing a happy song
(Alternate) O Chanukah O Chanukah, let's light the menorah
Let's have a party, we'll all dance the Hora
Gather 'round the table we'll give you a treat
Spinning tops to play with and good things to eat
And while we are singing, the candles are burning low
One for each night, they shed a sweet light }

The weary come to rest, and finish their labours.
Pale night covers the fields of the Jezreel Valley.
Dew underneath and moonlight above, from Beit Alpha to Nahalal.

Chorus: Oh, what a night of nights, silence over Jezreel

Sleep dear Valley, land of glorious beauty, we will guard you.

The sea of grain is swaying, the song of the flocks rings out,
This is my country and her fields, this is the Jezreel Valley.
Let my land be blessed and revered, from Beit Alpha to Nahalal.

Mount Gilboa is darkened, a horse gallops from shadow to shadow.

A voice is carried high. over the fields of the Jezreel Valley.
Who is shot? and who has fallen? between Beit Alpha and Nahalal.

The “Ana B'koach” prayer is recited on Friday evening during the Kabbalat Shabbbat Service just prior to the singing of L'cha
Dodi. It is a Kabbalistic poem, traditionally attributed to Rav Nehunia Ben Hakannah, a sage of the second century. The Ana
b'Koach is built around a sequence of 42 letters that are encoded within the first 42 letters of the book of Genesis. The kabbalists
explain that this seven sequence combination of letters takes us to the time of Creation. Each time we meditate on a particular
sequence, we return to the original uncorrupted energy that built the world. (http://www.kabbalah.com/wisdom/anabkoach). It
contains seven names of God (Awesome, Mighty, Tremendous, Holy, One and Only, Exalted, Knower of Secrets) which are said
to correspond to the seven voices of God (Kol Ado shem) in the previous psalm.(www.chav.net/siddur and
http://www.neohasid.org).

Shlomit is building a sukkah of peace ("sukkat shalom").

She will not forget to lay out

The lulav and the myrtle leaves (hadasim),
A branch of green willow,

and all the fruits of autumn,
with its fragrance of orange groves.

And when Shlomit says

Look! It's already finished!
Suddenly something wondrous will happen:
all the neighbors will come,
it will be a swarm -
and there will be room for everyone!

Then, through the roof of branches,

With a bright glow as though it were a diamond
She will spot a star, saying:
-Shalom, wondrous sukkah,
how fine and how pleasing it is -
that Shlomit build a sukkah of peace.

HOW SHALL I BLESS HIM WHAT BLESSINGS CAN I GIVE

What blessings can I give this child, what can he be blessed with?
Asked the angel
What blessings can I give this child, what can he be blessed with?
Asked the angel

And he blessed him with a smile, bright as light

And he blessed him with big observing eyes
With them to catch every flower, every living creature or bird
And with a heart to feel what he sees.

What blessings can I give this adolesence , what can he be blessed with?
Asked the angel
What blessings can I give this adolesence, what can he be blessed with?
Asked the angel

And he blessed him with legs to dance for ever

And a soul to remeber all tunes
And a hand to collect shells on the beach
And a ear attentive to old and young

What blessings can I give this man , what can he be blessed with?
Asked the angel
What blessings can I give this man, what can he be blessed with?
Asked the angel

And he blessed that his hands which are used to flowers

Will succed in learning the might of the steel
And his legs to dance the roads journey
And lips to sing the command pace

What blessings can I give him , what can he be blessed with?

This child this young adult
What blessings can I give him, what can he be blessed with?
This child this young adult

I gave him all I could give

A song a smile and legs to dance
And a delicate hand and a trembling heart
What else can I bless you with?

This boy is now an angel

No one will bless him, he will never be blessed

If only you blessed him with life.
