Language is an important function of human brain, and human brain is the biological basis of language

operation. Without language, the human brain might not be what it is today. Without the human brain,

language can not be produced.

The biological capacity of language is an innate device belongs to all human beings. This physiological

function is unique to humans, and it is coordinated by different parts of the human brain. I've seen an

example of how the auditory system is well adapted to speech. In casual speech, we can understand 10 to 15

phonemes per second, and in deliberate speech we can understand 50 phonemes per second. Such numbers

are astonishing for humans, who have physical limitations in their hearing system. Because if a sound like a

"tick" repeats 20 times per second, we can't recognize it as a series of separate sounds, but as a continuous

buzz. So we obviously can't understand (or perceive) phonemes as a series of beats, yet our brains know

how to separate several mixed phonemes at any given moment of speech. Therefore, language

comprehension is a miracle of human language function.

Secondly, this article also made me think about children's second language acquisition. Understanding

how children learn a second language and the development of children's language ability is very helpful in

understanding how human acquire language and thus the complexity of language evolution. For example,

one of the questions that we often discuss is, when is the best time for children to start learning a second

language? According to the physiological development of the human body, the development of the human

brain should be gradually mature and perfect from children to adults, and the function of language should

also be gradually improved from children to adults. But some people believe that the earlier the second

language is acquired, the better. Because there is radiological evidence that the later you start learning, the

more difficult it is to learn, especially in phonology and grammar. Some studies have confirmed the

existence of a sensitive or critical period in second language learning. According to research, the human

ability to acquire language can last until the age of 13, after which the learning of language becomes more

and more difficult. What explains this peculiarity of language development? Perhaps the answer is that

evolution has specifically designed parts of our brains to process language, and those parts have different
functions at different times in human development.

Thirdly, I am also interested in language loss caused by brain damage in specific parts mentioned in the

article. In medicine, the problem of language loss is called APHASIA. Aphasia is an inability to comprehend

or formulate language because of damage to specific brain regions. The major causes are a cerebral vascular

accident (stroke) or head trauma. People with aphasia show declines in expression or comprehension,

numeracy, reading, writing and other skills. At present, in the world, there is no specific clinical treatment

for aphasia, mainly rely on speech rehabilitation training. As I works in a university of Chinese medicine, as

far as I know, Chinese acupuncture has a good effect on the treatment of aphasia. Traditional Chinese

acupuncture has the effect of dredging the channels and collaterals and activating qi and blood. Acupuncture

on the patient's head, tongue and ear can improve the blood circulation and the supply of nutrients in the

brain, promote the establishment of collateral circulation, increase the compensatory function of normal

cells around the damaged cells, promote the repair of the damaged cells in the brain, and then regulate the

function of the language center and promote the rehabilitation of the patient's language function. In China,

aphasia patients are usually treated with acupuncture and speech rehabilitation training, with good clinical

results. But for now, due to the complexity and abstractness of the Chinese medicine system, this technique

is only used in China. With the in-depth study of physiological linguistics, coupled with the development of

brain science and neuroimaging, the response of acupuncture treatment in the brain will be presented,

allowing Chinese and foreign researchers to intuitively explore and discuss the internal mechanisms of

language and brain.
