Before beginning our video about Optical illusion in fashion, I want to anounce

that our video is combined by three short videos because of the

quanrantine of Covid-19. So, lets begin with the definition of optical
illusion.

1. What is optical illusions?

Optical illusion formats come into existence due to factors such as
brightness, contrast, motion, geometry and perspective, interpretation of three-
dimensional images, cognitive status and color. Optical illusions have impacts of
different disciplines within the study area on people. In fact, all the optical illusions
are known to be used in numerous area with various techniques and different
product groups like architecture, fine arts, textiles and fashion design from of old.
In recent years, optical illusion types are frequently used especially within the field
of fashion design in the clothing model, in style, silhouette and fabrics.

2. How people use optical illusions in fashion?

Remember, #TheDress? The outfit
that broke the internet two years ago and had
the world wondering if it was gold and white or
blue? It even had the likes of singer Taylor
Swift, Kim Kardashian and talk show host
Ellen DeGeneres entering into a debate
over it.

Playing tricks with the mind seems to be the style fix that everyone was
looking for, and fashion has jumped headlong into the trend as well. You have
sleeves that appear fuller when they are not, waistline that look slimmer with a few
hidden ruffles and tucks and zig-zag lines, circles and angles, all of which can hide
your real figure.
3. Rules to follow when wearing the illusion trend.
a. Use darker colors to slim down the biggest parts of your body.
If you want to make any specific part of your body look smaller,
darker colors are the best choice. But this only works if you wear
a lighter color in your outfit as well. This happens because shapes
in darker colors seem smaller in comparison to the lighter ones. For
example, to slim down the top half of your body, wear a black shirt
with white pants. The contrasting colors will make the top of your
body look smaller than the bottom.

b. Vertical lines create a slimming effect.

When you wear vertical stripes, your body automatically looks
thinner. But it’s good to remember that the more vertical lines you
use in your outfit, the longer the silhouette will appear. This means
that you should choose clothes with smaller stripes that have less
space between them. A good tip for larger hips is to wear pants and
skirts with side panels since the lines will divert attention from that
area.

c. Use big prints to enlarge specific parts of your body and small
ones if you want to shrink them.

You can play with optical illusions by using prints in your outfits.
Just remember that the bigger the print, the bigger your body will
appear. It’s a good idea to wear larger prints on smaller parts of the
body to create a balanced look. If you want the opposite effect, try
smaller prints with less space between them — this can make you
look leaner.
