Course Objectives: Course objectives are to introduce fundamentals of forces, induced the motion of parts or mechanism / machine and to analyze the
transformation of motion as well as power from one to another component, adverse effect on the function of the mechanism or machine is to be considered.
This course helps in determining the counter balance methodologies involved.

Pre-requisites: Engineering mechanics, Kinematics of machines

Module II: Governor

Concept of gyroscope, angular acceleration, gyroscopic effects in ships, airplanes, stability of two wheeled vehicle, stability of
automobile negotiating a curve, gyroscopic analysis of inclined rotating discs 10

Course Learning Outcomes:


On completion of the course the student will be able to:

 Underline basic concepts of forces and theory of relativity.


 Demonstrate the relevant motion concept for different mechanisms.
 Analyze the operations of mechanism and machine components.
 Design and synthesis the given mechanisms.
 Choose the best way of design the components to achieve the goals.
 Compare the different motions of the components.

Pedagogy for Course Delivery:


The course pedagogy will include lectures, numerical practice, seminars, presentations and case studies. It also includes design and knowledge of motion and
power transmission from one to another machine component.

List of Experiments:
1. To determine gear ratio for simple gear train and verify it by analytical method
2. To study gear box and differential mechanism.
3. To study different types of Cam follower systems
4. To study 4R-0P, 3R-1P & 2R-2P Inversions of mechanism
5. To find coefficient of friction for clutch plate
6. To determine gyroscopic couple on Motorized Gyroscope
7. To perform experiment on watt and Porter Governors to prepare performance characteristic Curves, and to find stability & sensitivity.
8. To determine and verify the whirling speed of a shaft-disc system
9. To determine the damping factor for a given horizontal vibration set up
10. To obtain dynamic balance for an unbalanced system with revolving masses.
