LITER OF LIGHT

Liter of Light is a global, grassroots movement commited to providing affordable,

sustainable solar light to people with limited or no access to electricity. Through a
network of partnerships around the world, Liter of Light volunteers teach marginalized
communities how to use recycled plastic bottles and locally sourced materials to
illuminate their homes, businesses, and streets. Liter of Light has installed more than
350,000 bottle lights in more than 15 countries and taught green skills to empower
grassroots entrepreneurs at every stop. Liter of Light Philippines is a registered 501(c)
(3) charitable organization committed to telling the story of more than one billion people
around the world who suffer from the debilitating effects of energy poverty. Our chapter
coordinates and supports the global work of Liter of Light while developing educational
programs to promote engagement and participation. Through social media and
community replication, our movement has spread; 145,200 households in the
Philippines, and 353,600+ homes in over 15 countries with main offices in Philippines,
USA, and Colombia. Women's cooperatives now operate building the Liter of Light
@Night lights in the Philippines, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Colombia.

It could seem something so boring for most of us who spend our lives illuminated
by artificial light, showered by technology in our homes and offices and on our streets
well, the attention. But today, more than a quarter of the population of the planet is living
in darkness. A basic circuit, a battery, four LED lights, some plastic tubing, a tiny solar
panel and the bottle itself make up these night-time bottle lights. The LEDs, with the
solar panel screwed into the top, are housed within the protective bottle. The three-watt
lights have ample lighting to illuminate a space of 15sq m. Energy access makes it
possible for us to provide lights or charge our electronic devices in our households. To
advance and attain sustainable growth, we need resources. With the extreme poverty
issue still on the horizon, what meaningful solutions can be given to those who are
facing it?. The Solar Bottle Bulb provides even more light and saves financial resources
and electricity. Do indeed bulbs improve the lives of families, but they also, by
dramatically eliminating plastic waste, strengthen the future and the protection of the
planet earth.
