A volcano is a rupture in the crust of a planetary-mass object, such as Earth, that allows hot lava,
volcanic ash, and gases to escape from a magma chamber below the surface.

Volcanoes happen when magma rises to the surface of the earth, which causes bubbles of gas to

appear in it. This gas can cause pressure to build up in the mountain, and it eventually explodes.
When the magma bursts out of the earth, it is called lava.

Three types of volcanoes

An active volcano is a volcano that has had at least one eruption during the past 10,000 years. An
active volcano might be erupting or dormant.

A dormant volcano is an active volcano that is not erupting, but supposed to erupt again.

An extinct volcano has not had an eruption for at least 10,000 years and is not expected to erupt
again in a comparable time scale of the future.

Q – Try looking for examples of each type of volcano.
