Definition and 4P’s in Home Economics

Directions: Based from the definition and 4P’s in Home Economics that you have read, answer the
followings questions briefly.

1. Explain the 4P’s in Home Economics context.

To begin, I will generically define each of profession, professional, practice, and
philosophy, followed with a discussion of these concepts within the home economics context.
 Profession – provides a set of services that are beneficial to society as a whole.
 Professional –person practicing in a profession, drawing on general and specialized
knowledge and guided by high standards of professional ethics.
 Practice – identifiable, repeatable action pursued as an inherent part of a given
profession.
 Philosophy – ideas (beliefs, set of rules and principles) about what is important in order
to achieve high quality and ethical, normative practice.

First, as a profession, Home Economics focuses on the home for the benefit of
humankind. As a profession, it is considered a beneficial occupation because it offers anyone
living in a specific place a lot of opportunity. As long as we have the skills and enthusiasm in
pursuing whatever career we want in life, we can be entrepreneurs, nutritionists, chefs,
dressmakers or even a tailor. For us all to be able to portray ourselves in public in such a way
that society is very clear about what we deliver, we should take this career seriously.
Second, Home Economics as Professional/s, we should always recognize the value of
professional ethics as an aspiring Home Economist, we should always be guided by our
values in order to really call ourselves a professional one. I think they assert a point of
exceptional expertise as practitioners participate in and in their clinical practice. In anything
we do, we should always consider how to be coordinated and systematic. These are the
characteristics of a specialist in order to call himself/herself a great professional.

Third, Home Economics as a Practice, we all know that practice is the act of
rehearsing a behavior over and over, or engaging in an activity again and again, for
the purpose of improving or mastering it, as in the phrase 'practice makes perfect'. Yes, it is
indeed a lifelong quotation that guides us into better understanding. To optimize the effect of
preparation, having a commitment to practice is important in Home Economics. After all, the
only way to become proficient in a new ability or action is by practice. As an aspiring Home
Economist, in order to continue to develop and change, we need to tolerate the discomfort of
being beginners.
 Lastly, Home Economics as Philosophy, Philosophy can be extended to all facets of
our lives and to the views we have. How we value stuff can be influenced by this; the
profession we want. In our daily lives, the abilities and discipline that philosophy teaches and
instills in us are immensely important. So, we can never neglect the importance of Home
Economics Theory. As we continue to conquer the Home Economics universe, these
philosophies will guide us.
