LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET

Background Information for Learners (BIL)

Energy is life. Without it, we cannot do anything. We use different forms of energy in
everything we do
All matter possesses energy but this energy is useless if unused. It has to be changed
into usable form. Energy must be transformed from one form to another before they can be
beneficial. The change from one form of energy to another is called energy transformation.
In this lesson we will study about how energy are being transformed. Whenever energy is
transformed, heat is always produced.
Energy of the sun makes wind and water move to operate the windmill and to operate
hydroelectric power plants, which generate electrical energy. The electrical energy is transformed to
light and heat energy in streets, homes, and offices. This electrical energy is also transformed to
mechanical energy, sound energy, and heat energy in the appliances used at homes and offices.
Heat energy is released from burning wood. Heat Energy is released when playing
Some of the heat energy produced goes to the environment.

Learning Competency:

Demonstrate how sound, heat, light and electricity can be transformed

Activity 1: Transforming Energy

Directions: Let’s find out how is energy transformed in the flashlight, electric bulb, electric
fan, and toy car?
Materials:
Flashlight with battery
electric bulb
electric fan
toy car with battery

Let’s do this way:

a. Remove the battery from the flashlight. Switch it on. Now, put the battery
back and switch on the flashlight. Observe what happens.

1
b. Switch on the electric bulb in your room. Observe the bulb. Switch it off.
c. Plug the electric fan and switch it on for 3 minutes. Observe. Feel the back
part of the fan.
d. Put the battery of the toy car. Switch it on. Observe the toy car.
e. After a few minutes of operating the toy car, turn it off and feel the toy car.
f. Write your observations below.

Let’s write down the observations:

1. Did the flashlight light up when you removed the battery? Why? What
happened to the flashlight when you removed the battery?

Activity 2: FILL ME RIGHT

Directions: Fill in the blanks with the correct word or group of words.
1. Energy is changed from one form to another form for it to be usable. This is
called? _____________________________________________________
2. The energy from the sun is changed to ____________________________
of plants during photosynthesis.
3. The ____________________________ of food is turned to mechanical
energy of the muscles when one works.
4. During energy transformation, ____________________________is always
Produced.
5. The mechanical energy of running water and windmill is changed into
____________________________ in the power plant.

Activity 3: TRANSFORMATION OF ENERGY

Directions: Energy must be transformed into usable form. How is energy transformed
in the following? Write the correct form of energy in the blank.
1. Flashlight--Chemical energy- _____________________- _________________
and heat energy.
