Light Energy

Learning Competency: Demonstrate how sound, heat, light, and electricity can

be transformed. (S6FE-IIId-f-2)

Behavioral Learning Objectives:

Cognitive: Describe how heat energy is formed and used.

Psychomotor: Demonstrate by making a model of simple machine on how light

energy is transformed.

Trace how light energy is transformed.

Affective: Appreciate the importance of heat energy in everyday activities.

What I Need to Do

Hello, student! You must be familiar with light energy. Light energy is a type of

energy that allows us to see objects. It moves in waves. When light strikes an object,

it reflects the light. When the reflected light reaches our eyes, we see what is around

us.

The activities below will make you learn more about light energy. After going

through this Learning Activity Sheets, you are expected to:

Getting Better

Activity 3
CONSTRUCTING A MODEL OF SIMPLE MACHINE ON
HOW HEAT ENERGY IS TRANSFORMED

A. Directions. Perform the following activity. Answer the questions that follow.
Use the rubrics below as your guide in answering the questions.

CANDLE CAROUSEL

A. Problem Posing: How heat energy transforms into another energy?

B.. Materials Needed: 1 candle in an aluminum can, circular cardboard (base), a

bamboo stick, scissors, colored paper, glue

C. Procedure:  ( Do this activity under your teacher’s supervision.)

( Precaution: Do not light the candle until your teacher tells you to do so. Do not play

with fire. )

1. First, circular cardboard. It is the base for the carousel.

2. With a diameter of 10 cm,cut a colored paper. Now make spiral marks using a

pencil.

3. Following this guide, cut it with a scissor.

4. At the ending point, make a triangular fold from paper.

5. Take a bamboo stick and glue it in the middle of the cardboard.

6. Place the spiral paper on the bamboo stick.

7. Finally, light up the candle. The candle carousel starts to rotate.

Questions:

1. Describe the carousel before you light the candle.

___________________________________________________________________

2. What happens when you position the lighted candle under the carousel?

___________________________________________________________________

3. What is the movement of the carousel?__________________________________

4. What is the energy source in this experiment?

 ___________________________________________________________________

5. Is there energy transformation when the carousel turns?

___________________________________________________________________

6. What form of energy is produced by the carousel when hot air from the candles

blows?
___________________________________________________________________

7. How do you feel after doing this activity?

___________________________________________________________________

Conclusion:

How does heat energy is transformed?

heat energy transformation. Write the letter only.

How is energy transformed into another form of energy?

A. The light energy transforms into heat energy.

B. The chemical energy in the matchstick is transformed in the

candle wick.

C. The heat energy transformed into mechanical energy that made

the carousel move.

D. When the candle burns, it produces light.

What I Need to Remember

Light energy is a kind of kinetic energy with the ability to make types of light visible to

human eyes.  Light is defined as a form of electromagnetic radiation emitted by hot

objects like lasers, bulbs, and the sun.

Light contains photons which are minute packets of energy. When an object’s atoms

get heated up, it results in the production of photons, and this is how photons are

produced. The electrons find excitement from the heat, which results in earning extra

energy. The energy is released in the form of a photon, and more photons come out

as the substance gets hotter.

Light travels in the form of a wave when it travels. However, no matter is essential to

carry the energy along to travel. This is the reason why light can travel through

space where there is no air. This is not the case with sound waves since they have

to travel through solids, liquids or gas. Light energy is very quick and travels faster

than anything. The light speed is equal to 186,282 miles per second.
