Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics VI

I. Objectives
A. Content Standards: Demonstrates understanding of meter reading.
B. Performance Standard: Is able to apply knowledge of meter reading in mathematical problems
and real-life situations.
C. Learning Competencies/Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the Grade VI pupils should be able to:
Cognitive: Read and interpret readings from electric meter ( M6ME-Ivc-75);
Psychomotor: Record the reading shown by the dials of the electric meter;
Affective: Show wise used of electricity.
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic: Reads and interprets electric meter readings.

2.Drill
Mental Computation:
Give me a number that is
a) one more than 9
b) one more than 99
c) one more than 999
d) one more than 9,999
d) one more than 99,999
3.Motivation
Picture Pick! Activity
The teacher ask the pupils to pick one picture inside the basket.
The teacher will ask if the picture they are holding exists at home?at school?
What makes these appliances work?
Do you know how much electricity your household consumes in a month?
How would you help lessen your electric consumption? Why?
Let pupils form a circle.Let them move clockwise then counterclockwise.
Do the activity a few times.
B. Lesson Proper
1.Presentation
The teacher divides the class into 5 groups. Then, distribute an example of a dial
in each group. The teacher let the pupils observe the different dials of electric meter.

5 DIAL METER

Dial 1 Dial 2 Dial 3 Dial 4 Dial 5

clockwise counterclockwise clockwise counterclockwise
clockwise
Group 1 Group 2 Group 3 Group 4

Group 5

The teacher ask each group what did they observed?

Do you know how to find electric consumption?
Let us read about the electric consumption of Matipid Family:

The Matipid Family monitors closely their electric

consumption. This month, the reading on their dial is 05634, last
month it was 05554.How many kilowatt-hour were consumed?
2.Discussion
The teacher ask the pupils of the following:
1.What is asked in the problem?
2.What are the given in the problem?
3.Based on the problem, what is the clue in finding the answer?
4.What is the operation to be used?
5.How do you find the answer?Show the solution.

The teacher let the pupils intepret the electric meter reading of Matipid Family using
dials.

Present reading
0 5 6 3 4

Previous reading
0 5 5 5 4
1.Who can show the given (present/previous) in the problem using the dials of
electric meter board?
2. What is the present/ previous reading of Matipid Family?
3.What is the basic unit for measuring electricity? What do we use to measure large
quantities of electricity?
4. How do you read the electric consumption?
5.If the pointers of the dials move very fast, what does it mean?
6.What should you do to save electricity?
7.Why should we conserve the electricity?
The teacher shows a video on how to read a meter. The pupils will read and intepret
the dials on the given electric meter.

3.Generalization
The teacher ask the following questions.
1.What do we call the device that can measure our electricity consumed?
2.How can you describe the electric meter?
3.How do you find the number of kilowatt-hour consumed?
4. How do you read the electric consumption?
C.Application
The teacher divide the class into three groups. The teacher will give the task of
each group after the pupils mentioned the standard in doing group activity.
Group 1
TABLE OF ELECTRIC READINGS
Household Previous Present kwh Used

A 2 150 2 288
B 7 285 7 810
C 4 605 4 938
Study the table and compute the kwh used.
a)Which household consumed the most? the least?
b)Which two household consumed almost the same kwh? What can you say about their bill?
c)As a member of the household, how can you lower your electric bill? Why is it important to use
electricity wisely?

Group 2 Group 3
Show the different readings using the dials
of electric meter board.
1. 5 035 4. 6 614
2. 5 148
Give the difference of:
1. 1 & 2
2. 3 & 4

*Which has the greatest difference?

*Which pair will have the biggest
bill?Explain

*Explain how did you get your answers.

IV.Evaluation
Direction: Read and analyze each item carefully.Write the letter of your best answer.
1.What do we call to the device that can measure our electricity consumed ?
a.Water meter b.Electric meter c.Aircarft Meter d.All of the above
2.How do the electric pointers move?
a.Counter clockwise b.Clockwise c.Alternate direction d.All of the above
3.What operation should we use in finding the number of kilowatt-hour consumed for a month?
a.Addition b.Multiplication c.Division d.Subtraction
4.The previous reading of an electric meter was 4120 and the present is 4128.What is the kilowatt-
hour being used?
a.78kwh b.98kwh c.88kwh d.108kwh
5.During the power patrol program,Lola Flora records her electric reading every week.On October
8, the reading was 4825.How much electricity was used after a week if the reading was 4930?
a.95kwh b.105kwh c.85kwh d.100kwh
V.Assignment
Read the electric meter in your home (For your safety, ask assistance from your parents). Record it,then
compute for the kilowatt-hour consumed from previous month to present month.
