Considerable importance is attached by the UK NA.2 Proposed UK national non-conflicting

such a procedure has been the custom and practice
in the UK for many years. The UK view is that this The measurement of the diameter of circular

clause 7 of EN 10003-3 should be provided.
c) Such monitoring blocks should be calibrated to
the requirements of this standard on a
standardizing machine deemed to define the
national scales of hardness. Where there is no
such national machine, but it is known that more
than one standardizing machine is used within
the nation, then the monitoring blocks should be
calibrated on at least two standardizing
machines and the results inter-compared to set
an average hardness scale of suitable levels of
uncertainty of measurement. Such calibrations or
inter-comparisons of hardness test blocks used
for monitoring the performance of standardizing
machines should be made at regular intervals
where the period should not exceed two years.
d) Periodic monitoring values should be obtained
from the mean of three indentations on each
block and the periodic monitoring tests should be
made at regular intervals of not more
than 3 months.
e) An assessment of the performance of the
machine should be made from the recorded
monitoring values over a period of time and
should show that a monitoring value is
reproducible within ± 1 % HB of the average of
the monitoring values obtained for the block.
