APPLICATION
Direction: Discuss briefly the effects of the contemporary economic issues affecting the Filipino
entrepreneur
Cause Effect
Minimum Wage Minimum wage is the lowest hourly wage
that a worker maybe paid under federal law
and it really affects Filipino entrepreneurs.
Increase in minimum wage would lead to
longer unemployment, reduced work hours
and increase layoffs for low-wage workers
which can make the business balance
reduced its revenues and increased costs and
it can affect the gain of profit of the
entrepreneur. Minimum Wage really affects
Filipino entrepreneurs, the decrease of
minimum wage will give an opportunity for
entrepreneurs to hire more workers to speed
up the process and maybe can help
entrepreneurs to gain more profit however it
can affect employees for underpaid while
increase of minimum wage will give
opportunity to entrepreneur to hire few
people and can slowdown the process in
making product ( however it can be fasten
but depend on workers skills or motivation.

Rentals Renting building or location for business

really affects the gain of Filipino
entrepreneurs and it has a lot of
disadvantages. First of all, the land lord can
increase the rent anytime. We all know that
increase of rent means increase of expenses
and increase of expenses means decrease of
revenues. Second is that there is no tax
benefits in renting property and most of all
you cannot change your business venue
design without the land lords approval. In
renting location you also need to consider if it
is the best place for business. The
entrepreneur needs to consider the
accessibility to its target consumers and at
the same time the entrepreneur should also
consider the affordability of its cost.
Investment and Interest Rate For example, Caktiong the owner or founder
of Jollibee needed a capital of 2 billion pesos
for new Jollibee project. However, he only an
available money of 1 billion. The best choice
of caktiong is to borrow money from a bank
( a perfect bank example of this is metro
bank because they offer investment to be
borrowed by san Miquel corporation and
other big companies). Commonly the sharing
of money is given back the money the
company borrowed with interest and the
money of percent share and contribution of
the bank, so that’s why it can also affect the
gain of the entrepreneur.
Tax Tax cuts boost demand by increasing
disposable income and encouraging
businesses to hire and invest more The higher
the rate of taxation the more the capital the
entrepreneur takes and the government
takes. Theory therefore states that higher tax
allow entrepreneurs to reinvest in their
business with a lower amount of money
leading to less employment.

ENRICHMENT
Direction. Answer the following questions.

1. Aside from the discussed contemporary economic issues that affect the Filipino
entrepreneur, name other socio-economic issues that also affect the Filipino entrepreneur and
discuss briefly its effects.

Exchange rate can affect Filipino entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs use exchange rate to figure of
what they are buying is cheaper of what they are selling in other country. For example, 1
Peso is worth of 297.60 Indonesian Rupiah so if I can buy of coffee for 297.60 IDR and getting
a pretty good deal. The coffee and Dublin will cost you about 3 Pesos. Filipino Businesses
have to do exactly the same calculations when figuring out the cost and revenue of operating
a different country because your money will change amount in different country so it can
affect money same with profit gain. Culture also affects Filipino entrepreneurs because it
impacts how employees are best managed based on their values and priorities. It also
impacts the functional areas of marketing, sales and distribution which can also affect the
decision and the profit gain of entrepreneur. Recession can also affect entrepreneurs because
it results in higher unemployment, lower wages and incomes which lost opportunities more
generally.
