ELECTRIC WINDOWS

The electrical system relating to the electric windows consists of an electronic control unit installed on
the bracket located behind the glove compartment, which allows the driver's window to be operated
both in the conventional manner and automatically.
When the ignition is on, if the driver's window control button is pressed, the window operates AUTO-
MATI CALL Y, i.e. the window ascends or descends completely even if the button is not held pressed
down.
During automatic operation, the window can be stopped by pressing either the top or bottom of the but-
ton.
The passenger window can only be controlled in the conventional manner, by operating the relevant
button.

"Noise detector" (frequency detector) safety systems

If the control switch is pressed when the relevant window has reached the end-of-travel position, the
electronic control unit automatically switches off the supply to the motor. This condition is recognized
by means of an electronic circuit called "NOISE DETECTOR" (frequency detector) which acts by
analysing the frequency of the interference generated by the motor's brushes during its rotation.

When the motor is rotating, it generates, via the commutation occurring betweenthe brushesand com-
mutator, an interference signal which is transmitted to the control unit by means of the supply line,
whose frequency is proportional to the motor's rpm.
If the frequency of the above-mentioned signal exceeds 15 :f: 5 Hz, the control unit recognizes that the
motor is turning freely.
When the window reaches the end-of-travel position or tends to lock for mechanical reasons, such that
it drastically reduces the normal speed of rotation, the frequency of the interference signal is proportion-
ally reduced. When the frequency falls below the specified threshold (15 :f: 5 Hz), the "NOISE DETEC-
TOR" (frequency detector) cuts off the supply.

CENTRAL DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM

This systems consists of two motors built into the locks on the two doors. The system is controlled by an
electronic control unit installed on a bracket located behind the glove compartment. When a locking ac-
tion is carried out, the electronic control unit simultaneously locks all the locks via one of the locks.
When an unlocking action is carried out, both doors are unlocked. Both doors can be locked from the in-
side using the appropriate button on the door, near the handle.

NOTE Theelectronic control unit comprisesan electronicsafety circuit which cuts off the supply to the
motors 15-35 s after a lock or unlock commandhasbeenissued. Thisis in order to avoid keeping
the motor supplied, which would result in their burning out, if the control relays were to jam.
When the integrated circuit detects more than 3 consecutivelock - unlock actions within less
than 15 s, the systemintervenes, operating the action limiter. Thelatter remainsinhibited in the
unlock position for a period of 95 - 145 s.
