BIKOY 411: AN ONLINE STUDENT INFORMATION

DATABASE SYSTEM

Abstract
This research is focused on developing a system that manages and records all the data and information for the Senior High School students of
Batangas Eastern Colleges. Also, this study aimed to develop a system called Bikoy 411: An Online Student Information Database System which can be
a good basis or foundation in terms of the data information of the students. Additionally, this study is focused on and analyzed the perception of the
students towards the system or Bikoy 411 in terms of design, function, accessibility, as well as its accuracy. Also the benefits and the level of the
effectiveness of the system.
In addition, this study is quantitative research specifically survey research. The study was conducted at the BSTC building of Batangas
Eastern Colleges through Google Form. It used the purposive sampling technique in conducting a survey and gather data among the Senior High School
teachers of Batangas Eastern Colleges. In gathering the needed data, a set of questionnaires were used which was divided into 3 parts, first part are
questions regarding the perceptions of the respondents on the overall characteristics of the Bikoy 411 or the developed system which had 4 subparts
namely the design, function, accessibility, and accuracy. The second part questions the benefits of using the developed system to the respondents and
lastly is the level of effectiveness of the developed system in terms of monitoring and accessing the basic information of the students. And these
developed questionnaires are distributed online through the use of online platforms called Google Forms.
The findings of the study would be beneficial to the Parents, Students, Teachers as well as Future Researchers. However, as shown in the
findings, most of the respondents have shown great responses and gave positive perceptions regarding the overall characteristics of the developed
system specifically in design, function, accessibility, and accuracy. Also as showed in the findings, the respondents showed a high agreement that using
the system it makes much easier for them to search student’s information as the included information is compiled being accurate and organized. Lastly,
according to the findings, the level of effectiveness of the system also received great responses from the respondents that the Bikoy 411 was highly
effective as an Online Student Information Database System.

INTRODUCTION
Student Information System (SIS) is a database system
that manages the student’s records and information. It is
indeed very important to manage the information regarding
student’s data because it will not only help in saving time it
will also lessen the work of the school personnel’s and most
of all it can be a good foundation of a good educational
process. As stated by Wan Rongze (2004), modern society
has entered the internet era, where computer networks
provide a powerful force for the development of society and
economics. The improvement of student’s management level
using network technology has a far-reaching significance to
the construction of a first-class college. With the
development of computer, multimedia, and network
technology mankind entered the information society which
has become the great driving force of social development,
information, and knowledge plays a vital role in society. He
also stated that using network information technology to
realize the national economy and social information is the
key strategy to give strength through science and education.
Dealing with an enormous amount of data is not easy,
that’s why if the school personnel needs information on a
certain student it will more likely take some time because
there are a lot of papers and documents that need to be
opened and search before finding the information needed.
According to Edwards (2020), the Student Information
System or SIS is a web-based platform that helps schools to
take data online for easier management. The Student
Information System was able to collect school-wide data
online which will be easier for the teachers and school
personnel to access the information that they will need. The
Student Information System (SIS) is created as a self-serve
solution to support the faculty and staff by helping to simply
make their work easier.
With the rapid development of technology, people
learn to rely on modern technology so that their burden will
be lessened. One of this technology is a student information
system or SIS a data-based system that manages the student’s
basic information, school announcement, program updates,
and other related information. Most of the schools will use
the Student Information System as their main tool to manage
all their student’s records and most schools may also have a
different system for admission, class management, and other
key aspects of running a school. Student Information System
or SIS serves as the core database for some school operations
Paget Vincent (2018).
SIS provides a simple interface for the maintenance of
student information. It can be used by educational institutes
or colleges to maintain the records of students easily.
Achieving this objective is difficult using a manual system as
the information is scattered, can be redundant, and collecting
relevant information may be very time-consuming. All these
problems are solved using an online student information
management system. The paper is focused on presenting
information in an easy and intelligible manner which
provides facilities like online registration and profile creation
of student’s thus reducing paperwork and automating the
record generation process in an educational institution.

Statement of the Problem
This study aimed to develop an effective Student
Information System for Batangas Eastern Colleges to
monitor and access the basic information of the students.
Specifically, this study sought answers to the
following questions:
1. What are the respondents’ perceptions on the
overall characteristics of the Online Student
Information System in terms of:
1.1 Design
1.2 Function
1.3 Accessibility; and
1.4 Accuracy
2. What are the benefits of using the Student
Information System to the respondents?
3. What is the level of effectiveness of the Online
Student Information System for monitoring and
accessing the basic information of the students.
METHODOLOGY
In this study, the researchers used a quantitative
research design specifically survey research. This study
aimed to understand the effectiveness of the Online Student
Information System for monitoring and assessing the basic
information of the students. Such a method aimed to gain an
understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and
motivations. It also provided insights into the problem or
helped to develop ideas or hypotheses.
Locale of the Study
The study was conducted at Batangas Eastern Colleges
Senior High School department through Google Forms. It is
located at Mabini St., Poblacion, San Juan, Batangas.
However, despite the quarantine due to the pandemic, the
researchers used online platforms as the channel of
communication. This study was conducted during the second
semester of the academic year 2020- 2021.
Respondents of the Study
The study used a survey questionnaire which consisted
of three parts. The researchers chose the Senior High School
Teachers of Batangas Eastern Colleges as the respondents.
The study used purposive sampling and the respondents
comprised of 21 teachers who participated and answered the
survey questionnaire prepared by the researchers.
Research Instrument
The researchers prepared a survey questionnaire to
gather data. Due to the outbreak of Covid-19, the researchers
made a set of questions that can be answered through Google
forms so that the researchers won't need to conduct a survey
face-to-face. The respondents were free to answer all the
questions based on their own opinions and perceptions on
having an Online Student Information Database System that
manages the basic information of students. The instrument
was constructed based on the statement of the problem used
in the study. The survey questionnaire was divided into 3
parts, the first part was questioned regarding the perceptions
of the respondents on the overall characteristics of the Bikoy
411 or the developed system which has 4 subparts namely
the design, function, accessibility, and accuracy. The second
part was questioned about the benefits of using the
developed system to the respondents and lastly is the level of
effectiveness of the developed system in terms of monitoring
and accessing the basic information of the students.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers prepared a survey questionnaire on
Google forms as their instrument to be able to gather the
necessary data for the study. In gathering data, the
researchers directly sent the Google forms through the
Messenger account of the target respondents to acquire data.
After that, the data gathered from the questionnaire were
analyzed and interpreted by the researchers.
Statistical Treatment of Data
The researchers analyzed and assessed the data results.
The responses of the respondents to the survey questions
were interpreted through statistical analysis and treatment.
This procedure was done to collect the necessary and
relevant data for the completion of the objectives of this
study.
To analyze and interpret the data, the following
mathematical measures were used in the study.
Composite Mean. This was used to determine the
average of those assessments of the respondents.
Ranking. This was used to reinforce the description
brought about by the frequency of every response in each
item.
Weighted Mean. This was used to determine the
perceptions about the Student Information System. The
responses were given equivalent weight values.
Frequency. A count of the number of times a particular
score or value is found in the set of data
Percentage. This was used to determine the distribution
of the respondents.
Scoring of the Responses. The data was interpreted in
terms of criteria based on the following scale:

RESULT AND DISCUSSION
This chapter presents the results and analysis of the
data gathered, the compilation of the questionnaire, and the
results and analysis of the qualitative findings of the study.

The presentation, analysis, and interpretation of the
overall characteristics of the Bikoy 411 as an Online Student
Information Database System in terms of design, function,
accessibility, and accuracy were discussed in this section.

and processing data that provide information and knowledge.
Some of the components of an information system include
computer hardware and software, telecommunications,
databases and data warehouses, human resources and procedure
that constitute information technology, which is now ingrained
in the operations and management of organizations. All in all,
the information included in the system supports and provides
 the benefits of using Bikoy 411 as an Online Student

Danmaitaba, 2015) explained that the benefits of Student
Management (SIS) software are enormous. In most
universities, SISs directly benefit both the administration and
students. To the university management, the SIS carries
most of the crucial administrative activities such as
admissions, enrolment, and examination.
Moreover, according to Somani (2019), Student
Information System (SIS) is a data management tool that
enables Institutions to operate smoothly. It is a one-stop
source for all kinds of student information that can be easily
integrated with other modules to streamline work. Also,

and hence each activity takes place online, which in turn

students of Batangas Eastern Colleges but the information
included in the system wasn't enough to fulfill the needs of
every user. Therefore, the Senior High school teachers of
Batangas Eastern Colleges should manage and attach
some more specific information of the students such as
students’ class schedules and records of examinations.
