ACTIVITY 1. ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY NRSG 41

1. Define Anatomy and Physiology.

Anatomy is a branch of Biology that focuses mainly in the structure of organism

and their parts. It originated from the word “Ana” which means up and “Tome” that can
be defined as cut. Anatomy was classified as macroscopic and microscopic anatomy;
macro-anatomy refers to those structures that is visible without the aid of magnification
while micro-anatomy identifies those cells, tissues, etc. that cannot be seen with the
naked eye. Physiology on the other hand is termed as the science of life that focuses and
understands on the mechanism of living things, from the function of cells, organs or how
the human body works. It originated the word “Physio” that indicates nature and “Logy”
for study, it also helps in determining good health and provides idea if our body is not
functioning well.

2. What is the relationship between Anatomy and Physiology?

Anatomy and Physiology is both branch of science that deals with the study of
organism together with its function. As anatomy is the study of physical structure of the
body, Physiology’s identifies and recognize the function of this structures and its
relationship in the body. Both of them correlates with each other as Anatomy focuses on
the description of forms and look while Physiology recognizes its function or the way it
works. Body structure functions depend on their form and the way this structure works
matters on how they are organized, so understanding Physiology requires understanding
Anatomy.

3. What is the importance of understanding the Anatomy and Physiology in your

field?
The main responsibility of a nurse is to take good care of patients and in
connection nurses needs to study Anatomy and Physiology so that they can comprehend
on how a human body works, function and recognize body parts so that they can easily
identify body failure and provides remedy or medication to prevent greater damage.
Nurses’ works hand in hand with the doctors in providing health related services, they
were the one who frequently monitors patients, check vitals and reports to the doctors
with concern to the patients vital signs, without studying Anatomy and Physiology it
would be difficult for them recognize health problems and restore health.

4. What do you expect to learn from this subject?

Dear Sir Vince,

I want to learn everything that you could offer, every information that you had
regarding this subject so that I could use it in my journey to nursing. I expect to learn
more about the human body, the structures, function, terms, uniqueness and its entire
wholeness. And I hope that you could help me attain those information so that I can use it
in the future.

Sincerely,
Marjourie
