Chapter III

Methods of Research

This chapter presents the research methods and techniques, data

analysis, procedure of data gathering, study design, sampling frame and
statistics treatment that will be used for accurate data analysis
interpretation.

Research Methodology

The descriptive-quantitative method of research was utilized in the

study to determine the impacts of excessive mobile phone usage.
Descriptive research is a scientific method which involves observing and
describing the behavior of a subject without influencing it in any way. The
study made use of a descriptive research where there’s an appropriate
choice when the research aims to identify characteristics, frequencies,
trends, correlations, and categories. Quantitative research focuses on
gathering numerical data and generalizing across groups of people or to
explain a particular phenomenon it Standardized questionnaires on the
different effects of over usage on mobile phones in students.
Research Instrument
In this study, the research instrument is survey questionnaire. This
chosen instrument will be used in the collecting of data are to test the
validity and reliability of the research study being conducted. The Grade
10 Students were asked to answer a survey. The surveyed questions were
aimed to determine the number of hours a student spends his/her time in
given features in mobile phones. Also, the questionnaire’s main point is to
know the adverse effects of immoderate usage of cellular phones.
The contents of the instrument assessed the learners’ personal data
(items 1-3), consumed time in phones (items 4-6), negative effects (items
6-9), and recommendations to lessen excessive usage (item 10).
Respondents of the Study
The respondents of the study were the 37 out of 325 Grade 10
students of San Roque National High School Batch 2019-2020. Each
sections will be given at least two copies of the survey questionnaire. The
table 1 shows the distribution of respondents in each Grade 10 sections.

Data Gathering Procedure

The questionnaire method was the mode of data gathering. Each
of the respondents was given a structured set of questions. In gathering
the data, the researcher carried out the following procedure:
1. A letter was sent to the Principal and Head Teacher of English to ask
permission in conducting the proposed study.
2. With the approval, the researcher distributed the questionnaire to the
respondents personally
3. The researcher collected the questionnaires personally from the
respondents and checked if all the items were answered.
