The practical exercise shall be carried out and performed by trio in the
seamanship laboratory. The student must demonstrate the required exercise
Condition outcome according to performance standard within time prescribed.
To demonstrate the required outcome, the student must be able to perform the
criteria set out.

Deck crew to make an eye splice of the 8mm wire rope using marlin spike

1. Distribute student’s copy. Conduct briefing & preparation.


2. Check that all needed equipment are ready and safe to use.
3. Ensure that area is clear of any obstruction.
4. Ensure that ropes are dry, free from grease, dust and suitable for
splicing.
5. Check student individually, no loose clothing and properly dressed up.
6. Ensure that proper working methods and procedures are strictly
observed.
