Objectives:
• a. Identify the common types of
electrical hand tools;
• b.Value the proper ways of using
electrical hand tools.
• c. Apply the specific use of
electrical hand tools by
assembling an extension wire.
The following are common electrical tools and
equipment needed electrical materials and tools
for the specific task.
A. DRIVING TOOLS
1. Screw driver
-tools are made of steel hardened
and tempered at the tip used to
loosen or tighten screws with slotted
heads. They come in various sizes and
shapes.
1.1. Standard/Flat Screw Driver
The blade tip is wedge-shaped
and resembles a negative (-)
sign. This is used to drive
screws with a single slot head.
1.2. Philips Screw Driver
This has a cross tip resembling a
positive (+) sign. This is used
to drive screws with cross slot
heads.
2. HAMMERS
• These are tools used in driving and pulling
out nails. They are made of hard steel,
wood, plastic or rubber. The following are
types of hammer: 2.1 Claw hammer 2.2
Mallet(rubber head) 2.3.Ballpeen hammer
B. CUTTING TOOLS
1. PLIERS
These made from
metal with insulators
in the handle and are
used for cutting,
twisting, bending,
holding, and gripping
wires and cables.
1.1 Combination Pliers
1.2. Side Cutting Pliers
(Lineman’s Pliers).
This type of pliers is used
This is used for gripping,
for cutting fine, medium
holding, and cutting
and big wires and cables.
electrical wires and cables
and even small nails.
1.3.Long Nose Pliers. 1.4.Electrician’s Knife.
This is used for cutting This is used by linemen to
and holding fine wires. remove insulation of wire
This can reach tight space and cables in low and
or small opening where high voltage transmission
other pliers cannot reach lines.
The best remedy to address the
insufficiency of available outlet is to use an
extension cord especially if the electrical
gadgets need to operate at the same time.
Steps in Assembling
an Extension Wire
Step 1. Gather all the
necessary materials, tools and
equipment needed.
Step 2. Split the cord wires and
remove insulation of both wire 10
centimetre long with a pocket
knife/cutter as if sharpening a
pencil.
Step 3. Loosen the screw of the male plug.
Open cover of male plug with a screwdriver.
Step 4. Insert the wire into the male plug
.Twist both ends of the wire to keep the
wires making contact with each other.

Step 5. Put back the cover of

the plug.
Step 6. Repeat steps 2 to 5 on the
other end of the electrical wire, this
time with the female plug/convenience
outlet. Once the steps have been done
you now have a complete extension cord.

Step 7. Check and test the extension

cord.
Activity
• Provided with tools and materials, let
the students assemble an extension
cord.
The performance will be graded
using the following criteria:
Performance Rubrics

Quiz
Arrange the steps in assembling an extension wire.
1. _____Loosen the screw of the male electric plug. Open cover of
male plug with a screwdriver.
2. _____Check and test the extension cord
3. _____Gather all the necessary materials, tools and equipment
needed.
4. _____Insert the wire into the male plug .Twist both ends of the
wire to keep the wires making contact with each other. Tighten
the screws down to hold the wires securely.
5. _____Put back the cover of the plug so the wire will not be
exposed and cause electric shock
6. _____Repeat steps 2 to 5 on the other end of the electrical
wire, this time with the female plug. Once the steps have been
done you now have a complete extension cord.
7. _____Split the cord wires and remove insulation of both wire 1
centimeter long with a pocket knife as if sharpening a pencil.
