The practical exercise shall be carried out and performed by four in an approved
mooring station. The student must demonstrate the required exercise outcome
according to performance standard within time prescribed.

To demonstrate the required outcome, the student must be able to perform the
criteria set out.
Scenario
Deck crew to make an eye splice of the 8-strand mooring rope using marlin spike

Initial Conditions At the anchorage area

1. Distribute student’s copy. Conduct briefing & preparation.


2. Check that all needed equipment are ready and safe to use.
3. Ensure that area is clear of any obstruction.
4. Ensure that ropes are dry and suitable for splicing.
5. Check student individually, no loose clothing and properly dressed up.
6. Ensure that proper working methods and procedures are strictly
observed.

8. Assign the student to his/her designated area.
9. Exercise will only be stopped when any of the following occurs:
- Exercise duration has expired
- Any untoward scenario that might endanger the safety of the students.

1. Student MUST WEAR personal protective gear (coverall, safety shoes and
gloves) before going to the site.
2. Once received, read carefully the scenario.
3. Check the condition of the equipment for any defects.

5. Decide the working length of the rope for eye splicing.
6. Use masking tape or twine to tie the ends.
7. Make sure no loose ends of the strands.
