Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei was a sixteenth-century Italian physicist and astronomer. Galileo(He) was involved
in the debate about whether the sun revolved around the earth, or the earth revolved around
the sun(on the contrary). Today we(naturally)know that the earth revolves around the sun-
heliocentricity. (Through)Heliocentricity was not a new idea when Galileo was around in the
sixteenth century,it was a divisive theory beçause heliocentricity contradicted accepted religious
beliefs. In 1615, Galileo was nvestigated by a religious court that was prominent in 1615 called
Roman Inquisition.The court investigated him because he supported heliocentricity.Galileo
defended himself by saying heliocentricity was possible but heliocentricity was not definite. Later
in life, He said that heliocentricity was definite. Galileo was placed under house arrest. He died
under house arrest in 1642.
