METHODOLOGY

Research Design

In order to conduct and facilitate the study, researchers

used a phenomenological approach as a research design. The data being

gathered is define as the respondent's personal views and experiences in the

field. Phenomenological research approaches as qualitative research for it

focuses on the lived experience of an individual or in a particular community or a

group. The primary goal of this is to come to a picture portraying nature of a

phenomenon.

Sampling

The researchers used stratified random and purposive

sampling as a sampling method to effectively facilitate the gathering of data that

are used in the study. Stratified random sampling is a probability sampling

technique in which researchers seek for a group as their respondents. Purposive

Sampling is also a sampling that used in the study and it is a non-probability

sampling that is selected based on the characteristic of their respondents and

take a tailored sample that proportion in a population of interest. In this case, the

researchers decided to have 15 respondents wherein it is equally distributed to

grade 11, grade 12 and teachers of Mataas na Paaralang Juan C. Laya. To be

able to do this, the researchers set the criteria which are the respondents that are

then observed and interviewed in Mataas na Paaralang Juan C. Laya.

Data Gathering

Before the gathering of data, the researchers notified

first the assistant principal about the study that will be conducted and asked

permission to allow them to gather data by surveys and interviews at Mataas na

Paaralang Juan C. Laya through a letter.

In gathering the data, respondent’s permission must be

granted first before conducting an interview survey with recordings and photos.

The researcher’s explained thoroughly the objective and purpose of the study

and discussed everything that should be known before the interview. During the

interview, the researchers carefully and attentively recorded, listened and took

down notes every data that are needed and important to the study. Questions

were used to obtain data from the respondents were as follows: 1.) How often do

students get tardy or absent in their class? 2.) What do you think are the

possible causes of tardiness and absenteeism of students or other people? a.

Home Environment; b. School Environment; c. Others (Please specify.) 3.) Do

you think that absenteeism and tardiness contribute to the downgrade of

Education rate (Yes/No and why?
