ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS

This section presents the industry analysis covering the following forces directly

affecting the proposed business: The political factors, economic factors, social factors,

technical factors, environmental factors and legal factors.

Political Factors

Political factors are one of the environmental factors that is affecting a business and is given a

lot of importance. Government policies can affect businesses. All companies and firms must follow the

laws. The political environment can impact and add risks that lead to major losses.

Government Policies that Affects Business

There are 4 government laws that affect a business namely the Regulatory laws, Labor laws, Tax laws

and Reporting laws. Regulatory laws are standards that affect how a business operate in certain

situations. Labor laws are regulations that is directly pertaining to how businesses or firms treat their

employees. Tax laws controls how a business must report its financial status to the government.

Lastly, reporting laws is somehow related to the tax laws which controls how a business must report

their finances to investors and to the government.

Taxes Laws

Varying tax rates on the sale of goods and property taxes at the state and local levels can influence

where businesses decide to situate themselves and build locations. If a state's tax rates are deemed

low for business growth, it could lead to businesses deciding to move locations.
Stability of the Government

Political stability plays an important role for business environment. It affects the investor and also the

consumer’s confidence, having a wide impact on the economy. Changes in political stability can have

implications for investments, consumptions and economic growth.

Economic Factors

The Inflation Rate

According to the recent Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) report, 3.90 percent was the

verified inflation rate of the Philippines in February 2018 as compared to the previous values from the

year 2017. As stated by the US Federal Reserve (FED), the ideal and target inflation rate is at 2.0

percent and is considered as most consistent. This recorded percentage was the highest one since

2014 in the month of September. Implication of this incidence is the rapidly increasing costing for both

transportation and food as the expenditure of housing also continuously increases. This elevated

inflation rate can indirectly affect the allocation of expenses for the opening and maintenance of the

business in the long run.

The Interest Rate

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) continues to maintain the interest rate of the country due to

controllable inflation conditions while keeping a maintained price-stability favorable for economic

growth. Interest rates are expressed annually, known as the annual percentage rate (APR). A 10-year

data show that from the year 2016 until present, the interest rate of the Philippines remained constant

in a value of 3.0 percent. An implication of this maintained and lowered percentage entails producing

indirect reimbursements to businesses in the Philippines as it urges businessmen to make sizeable

equipment acquisitions due to the lowered rate of borrowing.

Disposable Income of the Buyer

Philippine Statistics Authority last 2015 had reported that Filipino families annually gain

income of nearly 267 thousand pesos. On the other hand, the annual expenditure of Filipino families

was 215 thousand pesos at the same period. Thus, the approximate annual savings of Filipino

families was averaged at 52 thousand pesos. Households are primary benefactors from increased

disposable income due to decreased income tax as stipulated in the Tax Reform for Acceleration and

Inclusion (TRAIN), based from data from retail sales in January. Increased disposable income leads to

consumption growth, that can also benefit businesses.

Unemployment Rate

With the Philippine Statistics Authority’s Annual Labor and Employment Status of the year

2017, the unemployment rate of the country was at 5.70 percent that comprises 2.4 million people

unemployed in the population. At the first quarter of 2018, the unemployment rate decreased to 5.30

percent which includes 2.32 million people unemployed. Unemployment can affect most individuals by

losing their income and can also affect the country as it loses produces production and consumer

spending, however increases new business opportunities as it encourages entrepreneurship.

The Foreign Exchange Rate

The Philippine currency is now considered as Asia’s weakest currency. A weaker currency is a

conducive factor of making imports more expensive, resulting to heightened domestic inflation.

Exports and OFW remittances are the two biggest sources of foreign exchange influxes to the

country, while imports and debt servicing are the biggest grounds of outflows.
Social Factors

The Cultural Implications

The people of Mendez and Tagaytay, even through the rise of urbanization in their community,

has stayed true to the Filipino tradition and is still family-oriented unlike the progression of the citizens

in Manila that has a western influence. Filipinos usually go all-out whenever there are events or

occasions particularly debuts, weddings, or baptismals that would require thorough and meticulous

planning beforehand and cooperation of each member. With this in mind, Sweet Escape Events would

be able to render quality service to the citizens of Tagaytay-Mendez and other nearby cities and

municipalities with family-friendly services and staff that would willingly assist the clients throughout

the preparation and execution of the event.

Demographics

As of the 2015 Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) report, the approximate population of

Tagaytay is 71,181 with the value doubling during the weekends given that the city is one of the major

tourist destinations in the South. Mendez on the other hand has a population of 28,570 as of the 2010

PSA report. The approximate distance between Tagaytay-Mendez from the streets of Manila is

67.95km.

The Social Lifestyle

The citizens of Tagaytay and Mendez greatly vary in terms of lifestyle. Residents of Mendez

are more laid-back and are living more of the provincial life whilst the residents of Tagaytay are living a

more urban lifestyle similar to those in the Metro. With the 68-kilometer distance between Tagaytay

and Manila, the people from the North would find Tagaytay as an alternative and a breath of fresh air

from the crowded streets of Manila that still caters to their lifestyle.
Domestic Structures

In 2016, there are 2,295 recorded establishments present in Tagaytay according to the

Licensure office which varies from commercial establishments, food chains, hotels, and banks to

name a few which has an initial capital above Php 50,000 and below Php 50,000 for those

establishments situated in the barangays. In contrast, there are no credible online sources stating the

number of commercial establishments present in Mendez.

Educational Levels

The Department of Education (DepEd) has enumerated the schools in both Mendez and

Tagaytay that offers the senior high school program. As of October 5, 2017, Mendez has 6 schools

catering to SHS students, providing all 4 strands of the Academic Track namely ABM, HUMSS, STEM,

and GAS, as well as the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood Track. In turn, Tagaytay has 10 schools and

most offers the Academic Track, and some offers the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood Track, Arts and

Design Track, and Sports Track.

As of now, there are no written records that show the number of established universities in

Mendez aside from schools that offer primary to secondary education. However, Tagaytay has four

colleges within the city.

Technological Factors

NEW DISCOVERIES

New discoveries within technology can make a big difference in facilitating a business

because nowadays, we rely mostly on technological innovations. Being updated in the trends and

discoveries in technologies may give the business an edge or on the other hand, its downfall. It may

give the business and edge by being more technologically advanced through the utilities and
materials used than other business, promoting more efficiency and high quality product. However, it

may lead to a downfall through having the edge of more advanced technology may result to an

almost-perfect type of product which will turn out to be something impossible.

RATE OF TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES

Technology Advancement is one of the factors that will distinguish a business’ success and

innovation. The rate of technological advances within an environment may affect business in many

ways. A business started in a technologically innovative environment must be adaptive in terms of

catching up with the advancements in the particular area. Also, recent updates must be applied right

away and directly to its product. Failure to adapt may cause the business to be incompetent and

outdated by rival businesses.

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGICAL PLATFORMS

In business, choosing the right platforms may influence its overall effectiveness and product.

Choosing the right and updated platforms for the business is essential because one environment may

use an advanced platform, and not sticking with the updated one may give a business its downfall.

Having a more advanced platform may also give an edge to businesses against its rivals with the less

competent and known platforms.

Environmental Factors

collective bargaining and negotiations, peaceful concerted activities, also including the right to strike in
