Course Question Question

Outcome #
Codes
CO2 1. Water is to flow at the rate of 25 m3/s, in the concrete channel shown. Find the
required vertical drop of the channel bottom per kilometer of length. Use
n=0.013. (15pts)

CO2 2. Water flows in a triangular V-notch steel channel, with vertex angle of 60°, at a
velocity of 1.2 m/s. Find the normal depth of flow if the channel is laid on a
slope of 0.0017. Use n=0.014. (10 pts)
CO2 3. A trapezoidal canal with sides making an angle of 35° to the horizontal has a
base width of 6m. The channel laid on the slope of 0.002 with n=0.013. For the
discharge of 75 m3/s, what is the normal depth? (15 pts)
CO2 4. Determine the flow over a suppressed weir 3m long and 1.2m high under a head
of 900 mm. The weir factor Cw = 1.91. Consider the velocity approach. (15 pts)
CO2 5. A V-notch weir is located or cut at one end of a tank having a horizontal square
section 10 m by 10 m. If the initial head on the weir is 1.20 m and it takes 375
seconds to discharge 100 m3 of water, what could have been the vertex angle of
the weir. Use C = 0.60. (15pts)
CO2 6. A sharp-crested suppressed rectangular weir 1 m long and a standard 90-degree
V-notch weir is placed in the same weir box with the vertex of the V-notch weir
150mm below the crest of the rectangular weir. Determine the head on the
rectangular weir when their discharges are equal. Use Francis formula. (10pts)
