Learning goals:

1. IP sub-network planning
1. Practice your subnetting skills.
2. Build a network.
1. Connect devices to Ethernet and serial cables.
3. Network configuration.
1. Apply your sub-network diagram to server interfaces, PCs, and
routers; service configuration and static routing.
4. Check the network.
1. Use ping, tracking, web traffic, Test Tools

Background:

You've been asked to perform a standard lab link configuration, but with a new IP
address program. You will use the many skills you have learned so far in the
course.

Task 1: PLAN the IP sub-network

You have been given an IP address block of 192,168.23.0 /24. You must give
existing networks as well as future growth. The networking exercises are:

1. The first sub-network, the existing student LAN (off the R2-Central router),
up to 60 servers;
2. 2nd child network, spreading prospective students, up to 28 landlords;
3. The third sub-network, the existing ISP LAN, has a maximum of 12 servers;
4. 4th sub-network, future ISP LAN, up to 8 servers;
5. 5th sub-network, existing WAN, point-link;

6. 6th sub-network, future WAN, point-link;
7. 7th sub-network, future WAN, point-link.

INTERFACE IP Address:

8. For servers, configure the second highest usable IP address on an existing

ISP LAN sub-network.

• 192.168.23.109

9. For the Fa0/0 interface of R1-ISP, configure the highest usable IP address on
an existing ISP LAN sub-network.

• 192.168.23.110

10. For the S0/0/0 interface of R1-ISP, configure the highest usable address on
the existing WAN sub-network.

• 192.168.23.130

11. For R2-Central's S0/0/0 interface, use the lowest usable address on an
existing WAN sub-network

• 192.168.23.129

12. For R2-Central's Fa0/0 interface, use the highest usable address on an
existing student LAN.

• 192.168.23.62

13. For servers 1A and 1B, use the first 2 IP addresses (the two lowest usable
addresses) on the existing student LAN.

• 1A : 192.168.23.1
• 1B : 192.168.23. 2

Additional configuration:

• For PCs 1A and 1B, in addition to IP configurations, configure them

to use DNS services.

• For servers, turn on DNS services, use the eagle-server.example.com

domain, and turn on HTTP services.

• For the R1-ISP router serial interface, you'll need to set the clock
speed (a necessary time mechanism on top of the DCE of the serial
links) to 64000.

• There is no need for clock speed on the DTE side, in this case the
serial interface of R2-Central.

Task 2: Complete network building in Packet Tracer.

Add cables where they are missing.

• DCE cable connection followed by R1-ISP S0/0/0, the other end to

R2-Central S0/0/0.

• Connect PC 1A to the first FastEthernet port when converting S1-

Central.

• Connect PC 1B to the second FastEthernet port on the S1-Central

switch.

• Connect the Fa0/0 interface on the R2-Central router to the highest

FastEthernet port when switching to S1-Central.

• For all devices, make sure the power is turned on to the device and the
interface.

Task 3: Configure the Network.

You'll need to configure the server, both the router, and two PCs. You won't need
to configure the switch just as you don't need iOS CLI to configure routers. Part of
the router configuration has been done for you: all you have to do is configure
static routes and interfaces through GUI. The static route on R1-ISP should point to
the existing student LAN through R2-Central's serial interface IP address; The
static line on R2-Central must be a default static route only via the serial interface
IP address of R1-ISP. These procedures were explained in the Chapter 5 Skills
Integration Challenge.

Task 4: Check the Network.

Use ping, tracking, web traffic, and the Test tool. Track package flow in simulated
mode, with viewable HTTP, DNS, TCP, UDP, and ICMP, to test your
understanding of how the revolution works.
