Philosophy has a Prominent Importance in My Life

“Philosophy is the art of questioning everything; the goal of Philosophy is wisdom and the
wisdom requires questioning what is questionable.” – Kolak and Martin
Asking questions, no matter how silly or random, has always been a part of my daily life.
As a child, I remember asking my siblings these questions. Why is the flower red? What makes an
apple sweet? Is orange a color or a fruit? Where did that mountain that I see from our bedroom
window come from? Growing up, these have evolved into more complex questions as I sought
knowledge and understanding about how our world works. Why are there poor people when we
have so much natural resources? Why do we need to destroy a mountain to make new roads? Is
success defined by how much you are worth? What legacy do I want to leave in this world?
Philosophy plays an important role in our daily lives. As a son, I have learned from my parents the
value of being respectful and honest by default. As a student, I have learned that it is important to
be knowledgeable in books, but it is equally important to see the gray areas and ask relevant
questions. As a citizen, I have learned that every single gesture that I do can have an impact on
someone else’s life. Just because something doesn’t affect me personally does not mean I should
not care.
There is beauty in enlightenment. Ask questions. Explore. Have the courage to dig deeper.
Find out what makes one’s actions right or wrong. I have, and so should you.
