Identify several issues in the Philippines.

What science and technology related policies

could be developed and implemented to solve these issues?
- The Philippines have been doing a great job with regards to science and
technology and we’re still improving. Although that’s the case, there are still
issues that I think could be fixed through science and technology if just given
more attention. Just like the unsupported locally developed test kits for Covid-19
by our own scientist and researchers and according to newsinfo.inquirer.net, the
test kit is cheaper than its foreign counterpart. They could develop a policy that
will support this project, it will surely be a big help. Another one is the lack of
access to clean water in rural areas in which where my grandparents live.
Whenever we go there, there’s always this issue about washing the plates or even
washing our hands since the stored water gets empty easily, and we still need to
go distances just to supply clean water. A policy could be developed such as
funding a project to create a system that transports water house-to-house in rural
areas. One of the reasons why people are concentrated in urban places is
because there’s no signal, if there is one it’s very weak, in rural areas. I hear many

m
er as
people say that they want to live in rural places because of the fresh air and

co
peaceful ambiance, but they just can’t because long distance communication is

eH w
almost impossible in which is very important in today’s time. A policy could be
developed that will somehow fix this issue, and maybe it will also fix the waste

o.
issues and overcrowding in urban places. Speaking of waste problems, it is really
rs e
a big deal especially in urban places where there’s a lot of people. Sure there are
ou urc
garbage collectors, but there’s still a lot of waste materials that reach the bodies
of water and clog the canals. I think a policy could be created such as supporting
a research that will somehow in someway fix this issue.

What can you say about the implementation of some science and
vi y re

technology policies and projects in the Philippines?

- Science and Technology is a very important factor in the progress of our nation
and for the betterment of the people, and by adapting to the advancement of
ed d

technology alone will have a big impact on how this country progresses. But there
are factors that prevent us from reaching that goal, such as lack of funds or lack
ar stu

of professionals to supply ideas since most of them fled to other countries in

which there are better opportunities. Even so, the implementation of some science
and technology policies have addressed a lot of issues and might as well restore
is

the potential of our nation to progress like the first world countries. With it, the
researchers and inventors can now focus more on their projects or programs. One
Th

example of it is the Cradle Program which aims to improve the country’s

innovation ecosystem by facilitating the smooth transition of new technologies
from universities and research and development institutes (RDI) to industries -
sh

from lab to market. Not just that, we are now slowly adapting on the technological
advances, we may be behind in terms of that from other countries but we’re
getting better at it. The implementation of science and technology policies really
opens up a lot of opportunities to discover more, focus on innovation, and most
of all, improve the quality of our work.
