1.What do you think are the major contributions of science and technology in the Philippines?

Science and Technology has indeed made some major contributions in the country and
impacted the lives of the Filipino people in many ways. First, the development in ways of living
is undeniably improving. From traditional ways to the evolution of modernization, science and
technology created a huge influence in enhancing different methods and made an efficient
process in all aspects. For instance, the education system that we have now in the Philippines
improved a lot, from black boards and markers to electric modules and e-learning; just what we
have now, we are practicing online classes since we are affected by the crisis on covid-19,
thanks to science and technology, it become easier for us now to learn and keep in touch to our
professors and classmates. Thus, when it comes to communicating, a lot of innovative gadgets
(i.e phones, tablets, computers) has evolved; there are also social media sites (Facebook,

Google, Messenger) that was programmed that are indeed helpful for us to keep in touch to our

co
loved ones and also provides us information and news for us to be updated from what is

happening in the world right now. Another contribution that science and technology made, is the

efficiency in transporting. Although we already have our own transportation before (the kalesa to
ou urc
be exact) due to the modernization, our mode of transportation also evolves. E-jeepneys, e-
bicycles and cars and public transportation like bus and van have invented and help us humans

to arrive from our destination fast and efficient. Furthermore, science and technology contributes

to our economy. Not just because of the development of materials and technologies, rather, the

production has seen to increase in a much higher rate. Considering the machines and the
laborers, science and technology helps a certain company or business to produce products in a
doubled number easily.

In general, science and technology contributes in our country to be better and innovative. To
improve our facilities, infrastructures and our way of living. As what I have read, science and

technology creates a “smarter Philippines” building and creating innovations for an enhanced

2. Considering the current state of our society, do you think science literacy among people has
contributed to the growth of our economy?
I actually have two sentiments regarding this question. First, considering that we already live in
the 21st century, where technology is part of our daily lives, I could say that science indeed

contributed to the Filipino people and to the growth of our economy. As what I have mentioned
earlier, technology is rapidly evolving and this helps us to improve not just ourselves, but also
our environment and socio-economic development. Likewise, there are also some Filipino
inventors who happen to produce innovative ideas. For instance, the bamboo incubator of Dr.
Fe Del Mundo which helps the premature babies to maintain their normal body temperature and
stored on that incubator until they are okay and ready to grasp an air outside the incubator. This
invention of Dr. Del Mundo have made an impact to our country. Thus, the water gasoline of Noli
Dazo, where a vehicle may run using nothing but H2O, since we have shortage of supply in
petrol and diesel, Dazo made some alternatives and provide solutions with this type of issues.
This states that even Filipinos can have the same level of inventions and creativity just like other
people on the other countries do.

However, given that we are still included in the Third World country, where we still experience

the lack of facilities and poverty, we can conclude that not all Filipinos are aware of science and

technology. Philippines are not yet fully developed in the field of technology, some people,

specifically who lived in the far flung areas does not have the knowledge how technology works.

And their science literacy is low because of their situation. Regardless of that matter, I still
believed that Filipinos have the eagerness to adapt the future and this will not stop them to be
o

creative and innovative.
